Hey guys;
One of the fellas over on ubuntu forums gave me a suggestion to run the command sudo du /root -hx --max-depth 1. This showed all files located in root. It appears I now have 97GB in /root/.local. This didn't show up using nautilus as root. I am not sure what to do now to claim back that real estate.

When you looked at it in Nautilus, did you have "Show Hidden Files" selected ??

Edit: Did the results return look somethin' like this??

Sudo du thing...
From my understanding, the '.' (period) before a file mean it's hidden...

Edit: Nevermind...I reread your post and understand what ya meant now :oops: (Damn I gotta get my head back in daylight)

Looks like you have a diff setup than I do (possibly???) I have a / & a /home partition...could be why I don't have as much under /root....I did the same thing and added sudo du / (dropped the root dir) -chx...(the rest of it) and come up with the whole / partition - 5.6GB..but what in the world do you have under .local???

Ya, I think you have some issues there painterh. I have only 34MB in my /root directory and about 8GB in my /home/user_name directory (which in my book ... is a bunch of useless junk). Are you running as root all the time? Is that the user you login as? If you ask me, I would just say to wipe that partition clean and start over. Things will prob. just fall into place.

Hey all;
I finally figured my way around in the root directory, and was able to delete those 2 huge files. They were in that /root/.local folder. Deleting things from the root directory is a little more difficult that from anywhere else. I'm sure it's a good thing that it's not as easy, because you could sure screw your system up. Anyway, as always, thank all of you so much for all the help and suggestions. Now if I can just figure out how to get Samba set up properly, that will be sweet. Give yourselves a pat on the back. Cheers <BREW>
