lol beat me to it....Vinca is right, it doesn't make a folder in the root directory....it was the first thing I checked after finding it wasn't where I meant to send it....I still gotta run a search for it and see if I can find where it went lol.......Baphomet lol, you and your time-space rifts :lol:

So what meathod did you use to "recreate" this incident Vinca? The directions seem to be missing for me.... I ran a simple model of my version of the happenings that took place....

Code: Select all: mv ~/Desktop/samplefile /~

and ended up with

mv: cannot stat `/home/mcfp/Desktop/what': No such file or directory

hmmm ..... maybe:
cd ~/Desktop
mv samplefile /~
nope!

mv: cannot stat `/home/mcfp/Desktop/what': No such file or directory

..... hmmmm seems the possibilities are endless here aren't they? lol

I did

Code: Select all: mv FileName /~

Then it came up and said I didn't have permission to do that, so I then ran

Code: Select all: sudo mv FileName /~

and then poof...gone....I guess the home directory is just ~ and not /~ ?

Well, none the less Tib ..... good trick! Magician in disguise.
From now on use this format instead:
If its on your desktop:

Code: Select all: sudo mv ~/Desktop/filename /directorytomovefile

another good tip for new users of the terminal is to use the cp command instead, thus leaving the original in the same place till you know that the file was moved to the right spot
