Hey Baphomet, thanks for the advice.

I'll go ahead and throw that one in there too, just for good measure.
Thanks!

sometimes you CAN install a nvidia driver for use on integrated graphics and it'll work, if you try and you get just a command line, you should type
Code: Select all
sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

go through the process, and reboot. you should be back to normal non-compiz fusion then.

Hey vinca, how dangerous would this attempt be to try and hire Nvidia to drive Savage around? I'm running my desktop fine and I can watch movies now, but when Glest wouldn't run Tib suggested consulting the terminal and it coughed up this:

sean@Home-Office:~$ glest
ln: creating symbolic link `./configuration.xml': File exists
Exception: Your system supports OpenGL version "1.2 Mesa 7.0.3-rc2"
Glest needs at least version 1.3 to work
You may solve this problem by installing your latest video card drivers

Now, I've just installed the latest and greatest from the repos and apparently they won't drive that far. Do you think Nvidia could take Savage up to 1.3 Mesa?

Thanks for your insights.

Thanks Saddle Tramp.

I'm doing it now, but I think something isn't quite as it should be with synaptic....

...So now I'm really confused. I see tons of results, but nothing that matches "1.2 Mesa 7.0.3-rc2" or "1.3 Mesa 7.0.3-rc2". I have "Mesa 7.0.3-rc2" and it is installed. No idea what the version number is...

But since they are drivers and drivers need to be installed last, maybe I should just uninstall them and reinstall for the hell of it....

Thanks again Saddle Tramp

probably, because those nvidia drivers integrate a higher version of opengl than 1.2, so if you can get them to run on the savage, it will work. the nvidia drivers will also give you compiz.

Ok...open a Terminal and run glxinfo, scroll back to top, then down til you find the line that says "OpenGL Version String". That will be what is currently loaded in your system...copy, paste, post results here ..

From what I can tell it may be your video card will only support up to ver 1.2...solution there would be to upgrade your card...yep, would've been better to post this one with Glest thread :)
