Some problems I'm encountering with UE1.8

Help & support for Ultimate Edition 1.8

Some problems I'm encountering with UE1.8

Postby mangurt » Mon Jun 23, 2008 11:13 am

Greetings all,
I have a few problems that I've started to notice with Ultimate Edition 1.8.

Here they are in no real order:

1) Amorak crashes, all the time. I can't use it at all.

2) KDE does not work, ever, which pretty much sucks because I think it's the best burning program out there.

3) Totem and Mplayer will not play sound files.

4) I currently duel boot (Ultimate Edition 1.8 and XP (for work)) During the boot up process, I have 8 different linux selections (I believe this is from distro bouncing, ubuntu 8.04, linux mint, Ultimate Edition 1.8). Is there any way I can clear this out?

5) Clicking on the desktop button causes my system to reboot...I think this is probably the most frustrating problem because I use my desktop all the time.

Any ideas on how to clear these up? Part of me wants to do a clean install and start over because I can't remember what I've tweeked.

Thanks

Howdy Mangurt...if everything was working before you tweaked, and since you can't remember what you tweaked, and if you tweaked Ultimate Edition with TheeMahn's guide, then I would suggest stepping back thru the guide to check if you've disabled/removed anything that would have these effects...or to at least refresh your memory in what was changed...otherwise, if you could include any error indications you are getting (i.e. popup error windows and what it says) and more specific info on what is happening with each problem you've sited. Usually for audio/video not playing problems, loading in the applicable codecs will usually clear that up (i.e. ubuntu-restricted-codecs installed thru Applications/Add-Remove)If all this seems to be more involved than what it's worth to retrace your steps, then I would suggest just reinstalling... ;)

Here's the error I get when I try to run amorak:

I am pretty much getting this error with anything that would be KDE based. I can't remember if amorak or k3b was ever working correctly before.

Thanks

Have you tried un-installing and re-installing amarok? Sounds like a broken package. You could try the 'fix broken packages' option in synaptic package manager also. :?:

No dice on uninstalling and reinstalling amarok. Also, looking at synaptic, there's not broken packages.....

You might have some luck with checking out the depndencies on the Amarok Wiki and go through each one-by-one and re-install them.

On the KDE error, it may be because 1) it's trying to write to a hidden directory as indicated by the .kde or 2) you need to change the permissions thru there

Are you sure you don't mean K3B????

K3b is a burning program. KDE is a desktop environment.

And if you DO mean K3b, how is it that it fails?
