window decorations / compiz / 1.8/32 bit

Help & support for Ultimate Edition 1.8

window decorations / compiz / 1.8/32 bit

Postby tbannon » Mon May 19, 2008 3:38 pm

I'm really surprised I couldn't find any mentions of this yet, so maybe this was something I was doing wrong.

I wasn't getting any window decorations after enabling effects. After uninstalling/reinstalling video drivers, reinstalling emerald, trying to figure out what was wrong, I went into compiz and clicked enable window decorations and was all good.

If you run into the same problem, make sure you run through and click all the ones that are normally already enabled, i.e. move windows, resize, jpeg loading, etc.

I'm guessing since compiz was built special for this one, the defaults are different than what everyone will be familiar with.

Some admin with more knowledge please patch up this post to help someone avoid the headaches I was having.

thanks

That's a good heads-up there tb, thanx. Was the same way on mine after install. Could be it's a little safer only having a few selections on install so any problems with folks getting their video drivers right aren't bombarded by a whole number of "weird" displays and then trying to troubleshoot down to the root problem. When all is right with video, then they could select in compiz what they wish.

SaddleTramp is exactly right.
1.8 is a whole new beast, with a different way of automatically configuring the default generic video drivers.
Setting Compiz to start with a minimum of special effects, is a failsafe to keep your system from crashing before you install the video drivers and have 3D acceleration.
