Ok updates my system and it upgraded Gecko Media Player but now when I go to a web page that has a quick time vid it can not play it. Gives me a prompt to look for the plug in but fails to find one.

Any ideas how I can get quicktime embeded web vids to work once more?

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/qu ... -and-video
install/reinstall gnome-mplayer

If that fails, try:
https://apps.ubuntu.com/cat/application ... ugins-bad/
and install:
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

niether is working....

GS is already installed tried re installing both you list no fix though.

the out out of the sudo you gave:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
ubuntu-restricted-extras is already the newest version.
The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
python-opencv gir1.2-gtkclutter-1.0 cinnamon-session-common cinnamon-session cjs cinnamon-common
cinnamon-settings-daemon libcjs0c libopencv-ml2.3 cinnamon-translations
Use 'apt-get autoremove' to remove them.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 166 not upgraded.

Should I just run the ubuntu update? and hop it is some miner dependency thing? I have been trying to avoid updating as all my problems on this box started when I started updating

Do not update. It will kill your system.
What version of firefox are you using?

2 things you can do:
Check your plugins from:
https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/

Re-initialize the plugin database:
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/tr ... s-database

If you have done the impossible, its prolly cause Apple has the plugin locked down. Try and use konqueror(very wild guess it might work because safari is based on konqueror.)

NOTE: Sorry, ive had no luck with quicktime on firefox 26. Nobody uses quicktime except Apple sites.
Apple website(http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/) clearly states: "QuickTime is built into Mac OS X."

Try your luck buddy. :vil2_joker

I find some hole in the wall sites use quick time just like some use the MS format to.... not main stream but not uncommon either

A few months back the updates avlibele anyogram buged me so I let it run just to shut it up.... sounds like that may be the cause of the system glitches....

Is there a way to run an update back to 3.5 stock and then run a proper update. Also future releases may want to disable the unbuntu update notices if they cause breaks....

How do you properly update on Ultimate Edition if you cant run updates.... can you use synaptic? and run them that way?

I really hope I dont need to re-install to fix this.

Never update Ultimate Edition.
Always do a fresh install.
Ultimate Edition has repos and tons of software from different sources, hence its not updatable nor upgradable. :|

Reinstall 3.5 or install the new 3.8.

Only update your kernel and firefox.

It will be some time before I can do a re-install like that, I wish you could just do a repair install.

Fact is I can not wipe and redo my system with out having more problems from the down time.... a updater for the bits you can update and removing Ubuntus update notifier might be a good addition to future Ultimate Edition versions....

Though a version of Ultimate Edition based on rolling would be great.
