gnome desktop crash

Hi all,my gnome desk top is trying to make me mad.If I boot to gnome I have a total screen freeze it locks up and I have to do a hard restart I have not a clue why this happend.I am useing cinnimon now to post this.

By "screen freeze" you mean mouse and keyboard are unresponsive.
If its so, it could be hardware related.

Which means you would have to reseat/check the ram or graphics card.
If you have windows installed, run it.


Are you overclocking cpu?

I hope you have enough watts on your PSU.

mouse does not freeze.gnome desk top does. nothing wrong with my hardware 3.5 runs great.all other desktops work fine in 3.4 but when I login under gnome i get a black background and nothing works at all.

Assuming you are using 3.5....
open terminal --- ctrl+ alt+t
run:
Code: Select all
compiz --replace

or
Code: Select all
metacity --replace


I assume you have installed Radeon drivers already.

no it only happens in 3.4 3.5 runs like a champ but i will switch over to 3.4 and try what you said.

I had to say good by to 3.4 just was not working out for me.and any way 3.5 is way better.
