upgrade issues after install Ultimate Edition 3.5 - please help

hi guys i am not new to linux distros and did try Ultimate Edition 3.5 on desktop when it was released but first time on my laptop. install was perfect and all was well till i decided to install software updates. everything went wrong and i am stuck literally. initial install everything worked out the box even my b43 wifi adapter. 1st distro after ubuntu 13.04 to do so. during upgrade the software upgrader seemed to crash and asked me to reboot. upon rebooting my wifi is now gone and my touchpad isnt working anymore so no mouse no movement period. installed usb mouse but all programs i open crash including software manager or updater

please help as i really like this distro as its quite refined graphically and very good build. also the quickest i have used. currently running opensuse 12.3 while i await some feedback on my issues

Welcome to Ultimate Edition forums.

Please do not try to upgrade Ultimate Edition.
Upgrading will leave your system in a broken state.

The only solution is to do a fresh install of Ultimate Edition.

Only upgrade core programs like firefox, the kernel, gimp etc that you might mostly use. All system level benefits are obtained by installing a new kernel and keeping your browser up to date, which ensures more productivity and security. So please do not upgrade. Keep this in mind too for future releases.

thanks for the feedback..............everything is working cool so really i don't need updates unless an issue arises. i am being over 708 updates and i just cant be bothered going through it all. i am considering donating so i can get latest 3.5.1 as that will have all the necessary upgrades needed to bring things up to date

also i have an acer aspire 5336 with the backlight issue and i have edited the grub with acpi_backlight=vendor acpi_osi=Linux but is there anyway this can be added to the grub in future releases

sudo nano /etc/default/grub

Then go to this line => GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT

And make it as

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="nosplash acpi_osi=Linux acpi_backlight=vendor"
