Different Widgets For Each Desktop - Functionality Broken?

Postby Mastodonian » Thu Jun 06, 2013 4:00 pm

I'm trying to set up a desktop like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kKf1pU-cpDI Which is different wallpapers/widgets for each desktop and they can be rotated. I've looked up guides for it and almost every one seems to be for a different version of KDE than the one I'm using.

What I've done so far was enable DIfferent Widgets for Different Desktops in pager settings. All that does is revert me back to an earlier desktop when I had a different wallpaper and make my other virtual desktops go completely black. I can't right click and change anything in them. Even my bottom bar (with all the programs and links on it) dissapears. Is this even possible in this version of KDE? I'm using Ultimate Edition 3.5. I'm also using dual monitors, but I don't think that would affect it. I thought the second monitor was treated as an extension of your main.

The themes are available within system settings, as well as icons, the various widgets you will have to experiment with , but generally you will need to follow through with all three links, this allows for the separate widget placement, you will also have to place each wallpaper individually. At the beginning of vid that was cairo-dock

Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install cairo-dock

Super important..stay with kwin, this is your Window Manager for KDE, if unsure , the blue box icon in the panel has an option to switch window managers, all others are meaningless

Thanks man! It's working fabulously. Does this mean that I should stay away from Compiz for this style of desktop? It wouldn't bother me much, Kwin seems a lot more stable and unless I downgrade Compiz version I get screen flickering.

Definitely stay away from Compiz, especially with the lack of development for the project in the future. Kwin is designed for KDE, which is why it is best FOR KDE. Compiz will just complicate things. Although Openbox can play nice with KDE if you NEED to switch from Kwin. I don't recommend it though.

Are you in KDE?

I tried looking up the error code for bla bla bal cube blub and didn't come back with any helpful results. Perhaps you have a virus?

There is generally a help option in every single menu.

Maybe you are using Bob Loblaw Linux? I think this is the Distro they use primarily to work on Bob Loblaw's Law Blog.
