(SOLVED)update always shows updates avaliable

Postby boarder428 » Sat Mar 23, 2013 10:03 pm

Really liking 3.4, the visuals and eyecandy are just awesome! Updater is always showing that there are 54 updates to be installed. When choosing to update nothing seems to happen. Tried updating from command line with no luck. Any suggestions?

Code: Select all
sudo apt-get remove update-manager

That's how I do it, you can always reinstall, but unless something isn't working, why worry about it.

I too keep seeing updates available and also an upgrade. But it keeps failing saying a file is not there and to check network connections. I've been on five
different networks and all say the same. Network is working, what is the issue. It isn't the install, been through three installs and each one I cannot update.

I've gone to 3.5, but like 3.4 a lot better.

Help!

K JOHNNYG I think I may have got the issue resolved. I went click crazy I'm not exactly sure I should have done so but the notification is off now for the time being. I was wondering if the Updater may have been a little buggy cause the notification would dissappear sometimes but for the most part would be on. Under Software Sources>Ubuntu Software I checked all boxes. Same with all boxes under the "Other Sources" and "Updates" this is all I get after installing updates. Not sure if it is wanting me to add a PPA for cinerella? It won't allow me to check the box.

I think that is an Ultimate player update, Open synaptic click "Mark All Upgrades" then apply . if it does not update untick The Cinerella ppa in software sources and you should be OK, If it aint broke, Dont fix it ! :ugeek:

I think that's why it had to go for me, but I am usually doing a fresh Ultimate Edition install about once a month, except with my 3.4, but the ! in classic drove me nuts, but to be fair I really really really hated Microsoft Updates. Generally I spend a lot of time in terminal and I also remove the Ubuntu Software Centre. When I do run across issues with PPA, Synaptic is a good friend, I must admit. It's hard for me to go without. Ubuntu Tweak is getting like that for me too, and a part of me feels like I'm being lazy but another part says nothing beats a decent UI! Ha, I guess I don't feel that upgrade-manager falls into that category for me because I feel it's always out to break my precious Ultimate.
