Login Theme Change Problem

Postby Harley51 » Sat Jan 12, 2013 9:14 pm

I changed the login theme to an already installed theme. Now when it starts up and gets close to the login screen I get this message.

Theme not usable with authentication method username + password (classic). That's as far as it will go.

Any ideas how to fix this?

http://ask.unixmen.com/question/36/how- ... buntu-1204

To change your theme you will have to change lightdm default theme or for that matter completely change your display manager to say: kdm or gdm --these 2 are more friendly and a lot of themes are there for it...

I dont know if any lightdm theme's exist....most will just tell you to change the background wall.

http://www.tuxgarage.com/2011/10/custom ... ghtdm.html

lightdm which is a Ultimate Edition default is the fastest display manager around to boot your OS.

Simple rule: If it aint broke, dont fix it.

About line 6,000 from my WIP (work in progress) file:
Code: Select all
#### CUSOMIZATION SECTION ####

#CUSTOM LightDM / Unity Greeter - optional & will be empty
Edit the following file :
nano /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/com.canonical.unity-greeter.gschema.override

[com.canonical.unity-greeter]
draw-user-backgrounds=false # Set tru if you wish for it to be changed if the user changes his wallpaper.
draw-grid=false # highly suggested
theme-name='Ultimate Edition 3.4' # theme to be used in Unity Greeter
background='/usr/share/wallpapers/Ultimate_Edition_3.4.png' #wallpaper to be used in Unity Greeter
logo='/usr/share/pixmaps/3.4-logo.png' #Logo displayed normally bottom left.
background-logo='/usr/share/pixmaps/3.4-logo.png' #Logo displayed normally Centrally.
icon-theme-name='Ultimate Edition Dark Glass' #theme to be used in Unity Greeter
play-ready-sound=true # Sound if theme set will be played.
font-name='Liberation Sans 10' # Font to be used.
background-color='#000000' # Color to be used

Apply the new settings :
glib-compile-schemas /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/

#TEST - only works in GUI. Will not work in chroot enviornment.
#Only providing this information, because it took me a huge amount of time to
#find this information and the above.
dm-tool switch-to-greeter

Hmm, allow me to adjust the above post incorrect by the way for Ultimate Edition 3.5.1's use. Googled how to screenshot lightdm and welcome back to a post I wrote ;)

Code: Select all
sudo gedit /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/com.canonical.unity-greeter.gschema.override

Paste the following (should be empty initially):
Code: Select all
[com.canonical.unity-greeter]
draw-user-backgrounds=true
draw-grid=false
theme-name='Ultimate Edition 3.5'
background='/usr/share/wallpapers/Ultimate_Edition_3.5.png'
logo='/usr/share/pixmaps/3.5-logo.png'
background-logo='/usr/share/pixmaps/3.5-logo.png'
icon-theme-name='Ultimate Edition Dark Glass'
play-ready-sound=true
font-name='Liberation Sans 10'
background-color='#000000'

Save and exit, back to the teminal:
Code: Select all
sudo glib-compile-schemas /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/

Test it w/o logging out of your current session:
Code: Select all
dm-tool switch-to-greeter

Now to take a screenie, research begins.... Xnest does not cut it...

It would be more ideal perhaps if this worked. Anything is better than that god awful pink though!!!

I need to re-install to test that, that would be cool to have an override in general.
