Start Menu Background White and The Wording Very Transparent

The start menu background is white and the wording is very transparent. It's very hard to read. How do I adjust this feature?

@Harley51: Are you using Gnome or KDE? If in Gnome, open Advanced Settings (system-preferences-advanced settings) and go to themes, try choosing a different GTK+ theme. If in KDE, go to System Settings, then Application Appearance, then Colors and try a different color theme. Hope this helps. ;)

I made sure that the video drivers were installed and chose different color theme. Now I can read the letters. But after I installed the video drivers on reboot I see the Blue screen Lubuntu 12.04. On shut down I see Lubuntu 12.04. How do you change it back to Ubuntu 12.04

I think Harley51 is referring to the bootsplash which should have been the Ultimate Edition 3.5 one but has changed itself to the blue Lubuntu one. This happened on my previous Ultimate Edition 3.5 install after the mess with the Liqourix kernel, but I have no idea as how to change this.

Harley51, here is how to solve your issue.

1. Open a terminal and enter the following lines, pressing <Enter> after each one and when needed.
Code: Select all
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ingalex/super-boot-manager

Code: Select all
sudo apt-get update

Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install super-boot-manager

2. When the installation is complete, open Super-boot-manager and click Plymouth-Manager.

3. In Plymouth-Manager, click the Themes tab and then Set A Default Theme.

4. In the popup window, scroll around for the theme you want, it should be either 0 or 24, some thing like that.

5. Type the number of the desired theme and press enter.

6. In Plymouth-Manager, then click Apply Changes. When this finishes, you're done.

Anyway, I hope this works for you.

If in KDE open settings and go to Application Themes. Switch Window GTK themes from GTK to Oxygen and reset colours.
