Screen Saver Problem (Solved)

Postby MERRIB » Sun Dec 02, 2012 1:34 am

I have Ultimate Version 3.4 installed on my dual core Dell Laptop. Right now I have a problem concerning the Screen Saver. After I boot up the system and get it running the screen saver will not come on. I have tried setting it several times all to no avail. When I go to the screen saver module I get this warning box that kicks up and it says the following: The Xscreensaver daemon doesn't seem to be running on display "0.0" Launch it now or cancel. I cannot figure out what is going on. Can any one help me out. Ultimate 3.4 is installed on a Dell Precision M6300 with a 160 gb Hard drive and 4 gb of memory. It does have an Nvidia video card. The system is current with all updates. What is going on. Help me out guys.

Many thanks in advance.

Bob

Try this first, open System-Preferences-Startup Applications, then add. Name it whatever and use command xscreensaver -nosplash. Close and restart. If that dont work you can open terminal as root by typing sudo -s then password. Type #sudo apt-get remove gnome-screensaver then #sudo apt-get install xscreensaver xscreensaver-gl-extra xscreensaver-data-extra. Then restart.

Micro:
I followed your directions and the first recommendation worked perfectly. Thank you very much for your helpful information. I have been using Ultimate since version 2.8 and have enjoyed it. Now I have been using 3.4 since it came out and I am really hooked. I can't with to see what 3.5 will be like. Again many thanks for your insight as to rectify my screensaver problem.

Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year !
