seems like your display manager has crashed or compiz problems also....

PLEASE list your signature in your post. What kind of gpu are you using?? and maybe you need to install drivers for it....

here's a quick workaround:
open a terminal if you can from your desktop by clicking CTRL+ALT+T......if nothing happens goto a tty by pressing CTRL+ALT+F2 and then type:

Code: Select all
sudo /etc/init.d/lightdm restart

The above command will restart the display manager and see if your panels show up

If it is a configuration issue, the following will reset it back to default.
Open a terminal and enter the following two commands:

Code: Select all
dconf reset -f /org/gnome/gnome-panel/
killall gnome-panel

btw , does anyone know where i can find Ultimate Edition 2.6.6 for download. i thought i read that this was the final upgraded release with all the bells and whistles.. 2.6 has never failed me and after a few more weeks with 3.4 i might like to go back to that.

O.k.. Close this thread. Edit to solved on the subject. I have 3.4, what would you like to change? Start a new subject with that.
