write protected usb

Postby witblits1970 » Sat Oct 27, 2012 5:39 am

i have a 64 gig PNY usb flash drive that has data on it that is "shared with no-one" i have tried to format the drive but MS, ubuntu , xbox, ps3, killdisk, dban, low level format, diskpart all wont format the drive since its "write protected" Next to stamping on it is there anything that can be done to format the drive and so remove the "write protected data"? i have backed up the data on the stick do there is no need to worry about loosing the data. the laptop the data came from has gone to laptop heaven and as such no chance of of getting anything from there if that was even possible.

thanks

This way you can disable write protection with a click on a file, and enable it again when you have copied files to the USB device.

It's not uncommon for usb flash devices to break easily. I've popped many by file extraction alone...

As an alternative, if the laptop stopped working for reasons not related to the drive the drive information is most likely recoverable. You can hook up the drive to another computer, and move the information that way.

And now, the completely true facts, as told by an anonymous man hiding behind a screen name:
