usb stick write protected

Postby witblits1970 » Sun Sep 02, 2012 7:03 pm

i have a 8 gig store and go usb flash drive that has been write protected. i need to delete some of the files from it but due the permissions i cant. the drive wont format for same reason it wont alolow files to be deleted. is there any way to change the write protection property so that i can dfelete and format the flash drive. i have tried DBAN, KILLDISK, standard formatting, gparted and even MS own windows formatting tool all to no avail. :?
i ahve tried to change permissions in MS but even here it wont change due the write protection bit, very frustrating. for you who defeated this issue, your help is appreciated, thanks

Blackwolf wrote:Insert memory stick and start gparted. Select it via the button at top right. It should be obvious if you are inspecting your memory stick (Size is a good clue). Select Partition--> unmount.

Select 'Device' at top, then 'Create Partition Table' and take the default, which is msdos.

Now you should be able to create a new partition and format it f32. If you can't, it's probably bust.

tried this but wouldnt format, will try the previous option and come back. the stick isnt bust as i have used it loads and even in its current state still works, just slow to mount. thanks
