Ultimate Edition KDE4 is coming uploading now, the good guy that I am thought it might be a good gesture to open a thread for it, this will be modified many times.

First and foremost what is Ultimate Edition KDE4, well as the name implys a KDE4 based edition Ultimate style ;) I want all to be informed KDE4 (looks like windows vista w/o the overhead) is in its infancy and problems are to be expected, this is simply a glimpse into the future & in no way to be considered stable. I will not run it day to day, I do however appreciate the eyecandy it provides. I also want everyone to know problems are to be expected, it will be a year before KDE4 goes stable to put things into perspective. What makes this better? Well my my the availability of software this is pre-loaded to the hilt with applications, and support for most wireless not to mention a bunch of hardware most do not support. Compiz fusion git built (latest and greatest). I did want to talk it down before I talked it up.

The only reason this release is even happening is the users have asked and I provide. This is no Ultimate Edition 1.8, this is a special release as Ultimate Christmas Edition is each year. Those that try it I am sure will will not be disappointed. Don't hammer is so hard it goes down.

Further info to follow, best I can do for now... This is the first 100% KDE built edition, so usplash is not there, I will have to learn KDE's file structure. A *nix god when that transpires. This will not happen overnight.

Damn a post already and it isn't released. ;) Thanks for the vote of confidence. You gentlemen (admin / mod) will have your paws on it first, hang tight.

It will be officially posted tomorrow (forum users only), I did try to keep it to myself. People are consistently on me, my box of 500 is almost full here, the above post will not be updated until forum users first by the way have their chance (minus admin / mods of course). I will follow though with a webpage for it, perhaps many days later. I take care of our family first, right down the line. Welcome to the family.

Mmm... I will be downloading this when it becomes available. If for no other reason than to try and figure out what the appeal is, exactly, of the KDE desktop. Thus far, this has eluded me. Perhaps running it under Ultimate Edition will shed some light on this thorny matter.

Is it possible?? Will I be swung over to the Dark Side of Ubuntu?? Or will I return to Gnome even MORE solidly equipped with "slings and arrows" with which to assault, gadfly like, those who refuse to adopt The One True Desktop?

I guess I have to hurry up and pass my next 3 tests this week to research the KDE4...I am honestly not a big fan of KDE but if they have improved upon it I guess I will try it out. My laptop is in with the Solid State Drive...and to be honest it is smoking....70-80 mb/s write times in XP....if I get fed up with XP x64 then I will switch it out for either Ultimate Edition 1.7 or my Hardy Ultimate Edition look a like
