Ultimate Edition 2.9 Already?

01/22/10: Ultimate Edition 2.9 x64 is uploading for testing. Sorry for the delay. I have been under a bit of a load in house & have been busy programming a tool that I feel will change the *nix community, far from perfect as of current. I have been asked to copyright it at 0 expense to me. The impact will be massive. The winner of this poll logo is used for Plymouth using red poppers at the bottom.

I do not want to cause a blaze of excitement, but yes it is coming.

I asked Cowboy to "work up" a Ultimate Edition 2.9 logo and in minutes he provided me 5 of them, he is truly a graphic artist machine. Please place your vote for the logo 1 through 5

I can't wait for 3.0, NVidia issues have plagued me (March 2, 2007
Ubuntu to actively support Nouveau, an open source NVIDIA graphic driver.) took 3 years to get to be default driver.

According to this story of Desktoplinux.com Ubuntu is going to actively support Nouveau, an open source NVIDIA graphic driver. I have built Ultimate Edition 2.6.1 100's of times, uploaded it 2 or 3 times. NVidia issues remain. Next upload, I am going to release it. I am tired of messing with it. Let's cross our fingers. ATI based hardware works beautifully.

They are on top of it, I do look for a great majority of NVidia Issues to be squashed by introduction of Ultimate Edition 3.0.

2.9? I am reinstalling 2.7 because 2.8 is not good.
I hate to tell you and you worked hard on it...and Im not putting anyone down.
It just does not work correctly.
It probably has to do with Ubuntu...and not your twaeks.
Or it could be I have the wrong dependencies.
I only see the same problems continuing with 2.9...when 2.8 is not fixed as yet.
Im going back to what worked for me.
sorry

Dear TheeMahn, I've been a loyal follower of yours for years (since 1.4). Like you I've always preferred gnome over KDE. KDE always seemed to resemble that "other" OS and I always found it to be buggy.

When other new distros are released, regardless of desktop environment, I give them a whirl on a test machine. When Kubuntu 10.04 LTS was first released I installed it on a test machine, tweaked it to how I like it and, I don't know how to tell you this, but, I'm still using it. I love KDE!!

I think it's really improved since the first 4.x series was released. I know sometimes you integrate KDE with your releases so you can choose at the login screen, but lets face it, apps designed for GTK gnome are ugly on KDE QT and vice versa. I bet if you made an Ultimate "K" ubuntu distro with all the bells and whistles it would be a masterpiece!!! Please consider it!!

So what were the issues? I am sure a list of some would help in development, or could even be fixed by simple changes. I had terrible luck with 2.8 Beta, but the issues were not Ultimate Edition, but rather compiz. It all got worked out. Give the Devs a chance to improve it. Progress takes time.

You know, I started out in KDE (3.5) in another distro, but when Klikit stalled out, I switched to Ultimate Edition, and Gnome. Personally, I am not a KDE 4 fan, I have used it a little and it feels odd to me. But that being said, it is available in Ultimate Edition 2.8, with a small investment in time, installing it from Synaptic. I know several people have worked with it and made it look pretty, go for it!

Your post meant alot to me, please let me elaborate. I intended to shut down our Urban terror server, been there? Ultimate Edition 2.9 I am sure you look forward to, however I am under a load to make Ultimate Edition 2.8 Gamers (this will be special release BTW unlike any gamers prior). It does not end there, Ultimate Edition 2.6.1 I have built hundreds of times uploaded 3 times and NVidia screws that up (last check I do not work for ATI or Nvidia). I am not saying NVidia is crap, but a showstopper. Make's me wonder if I will have time for Ultamatix. I have a wakeup call for it & probably won't look back, damn it ppl please let me do my job.

Think about it this way 2 of 50+ admin, I will ship Ultimate Edition 2.6.1 - "perfect", my words. One of our admin went out and purchased a ATI card, I don't want to quote him. I hope Nvidia gets on the NIX bandwagon, the more failures we have here and complaints to them all the better.

I do not want to cause confusion, this is not Ultimate Edition 2.8 Maverick based, this is Ultimate Edition 2.6 Lucid based. How about I let it slip what Ultimate Edition 2.6.1 is (it will take a few minutes for google to pick up what it is):
Ultimate Edition 2.6.1 - more then a maintenance release.

I felt since Ubuntu drops maintenance releases. IE 10.04.1, it is Long Term Support (LTS), for us to to do likewise. I do not look for there to be a Ultimate Edition 2.6.2, for a lack of a better word it is perfect. For my perceivable future I intend to run this O/S, not that there is anything wrong with Ultimate Edition 2.8. Amazing how many bugs get squashed shortly after a "final release", a few I have personally implemented. I am thinking Ultimate Edition 2.9 only to run momentarily as I build it. Why some may ask? I am not a KDE mahn ;)

If I was currently running Ultimate Edition 2.6, would I run out and snag 2.6.1? If I was happy with my current O/S absolutely not, the only real gain would be the "fixes", updates and upgrades, which you have probably already downloaded & installed through your update manager. If I somehow managed to whack my O/S 2.6.1 would be the logical answer.

Well on to the details, what is Ultimate Edition 2.6.1?

<strong>Description</strong>: Ultimate Edition 2.6.1 is a Long Term Supported (LTS) release. Changes in Ultimate Edition 2.6.1 v/s Ultimate Edition 2.6 are as follows:

I have many a release already in works, some are uploaded. Watch us over the next 2 weeks. Sometimes it is best to step backwards before moving forward. Many new things I hope to introduce you to. This one was first on my list & it was not an introduction, mainly fixing things. I find it to be bulletproof. I hope you are as happy with it as I am. I am not going to slow down on work, we will have a Ultimate Edition 2.8 Gamers and a Ultimate Edition 2.9 coming. Mr. Breeg will build gamers this weekend. I do have some bad news for you there, however now is not the time.

Enjoy Ultimate Edition 2.6.1,

TheeMahn

I have solved all issues thinking about offering it to you & will be in SQL, only members. Solves issues even at admin level. Name, not in my database, verify phpid. A epiphany. I will write the script to open the doors. I am so far behind we will see. Deliberately left the download link there for now. Last time we got shut down. 1/2 a petabyte is nasty, it was not by accident.

Sorry also written in HTML, something you fellas will not be able to write in gamers. I do hope you know I am joking. I have been stopped or slowed down from doing what I should be doing. I call it advancement. They call it being a prick. Funny, I will go out of my way to help ppl. Is that what a intelligent man does?

11 servers must communicate. We are cloud based, lets see how that works out.
