I am new to ultimate but have some experiance with ubuntu, i am currently a student in computer networking and everything we do with linux is in the command line, when i switch from the GUI to terminal it is constantly logging something and i cannot get anything done, i know i could use the terminal in the GUI but i prefer the real terminal. Any help would be greatly appriciated and also how do you get compix fusion to turn on all i can get to work is beryl. With beryl there is the settings manager which activates beryl is there the same thing for compix. Thanks Alot
Andrew.

Right click the Beryl Manager Icon at the top right of your screen when you launch it, then go to "select windows manager" and tick compiz. For the adjustments go System>>Preferences>>Compiz Config Settings Manager ;) As far as working in only terminal try just booting into it through GRUB, by selecting "recovery mode" - then you should have nothing happening except terminal and no background things happening (when it stops booting of course - enter password for maintenance). Otherwise I have not a clue to things that are running in the background that you speak of (there are lots of things loaded when going to gnome, and all these would have to be turned off prior to going to terminal - so I recommend to just boot to terminal by means of GRUB). Hope that helps - if not sorry in advance ;)
