Is there any way to "tune" this distro to utilize "vesa" automatically for Nvidia chipsets - instead of "nv" or "nvidia"? (just to get them rolling with a working desktop) I think that is crazy that somebody with the 7050PV chipset can not even play with Ubuntu off of the Live CD/ DVD because of this "fatal error" type screen. It tells you to install X then try again. I have posted this in the "Hardware" section of this forum - see: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=46#p90
I hope that this will not deter people from experiancing all that Ultimate has to offer, It is an amazing distro once up and going.

but I can't say for sure, because I can't install it
the thing is that my computer totally blocks (no mouse/keyboard, CD isn't spinning, HDD led off) (just to mention i have laptop)
, on the first thing that happens after the "7 step" installation config. it blocks on "building partition tables", on 15%
i have win xp there, and want to make dual boot, which work 4 me on standard ubuntu 7.04 and 7.10 (and suse and etc, but that isn't important)
so i got:
(60 gb hdd ~~ 57 GB)
1. ntfs 10gb-->windows prim
2. ntfs 30gb-->data hdd
3. ext3 16bg-->linux /
4. swap 2gb
any ideas on solving this issue?
i would like if i could get an answer fast, because i need some linux to work on, and i would like it to be Ultimate 1.5
tnx in front, antedd

I think you can run a custom kernel command and add the option VGA to the end, Ill look into it further and modify this post.
EDIT: it is option vesa=force
Let me know if that does not work for you.

Does it do that after installation? Or from the Live Disk?

I'm assuming that you are talking about editing from grub menu kernel? I'm sure I'll be able to find the correct spot for the edit if that is where it is at. Like I said before, I've allready taken care of this issue - through banging my head on the monitor and keyboard several times but, I was just mentioning it for a built-in feature in the 1.5 release DVD ISO to detect the nvidia 7050PV chipset and then "vesa=force". Maybe this is allready fixed in Gusty Gibbon and therefor a 'moot' point for Ultimate Edition 1.6, if so just ignore my ramblings, and thanks for the help!
