GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR=`lsb_release -i -s 2> /dev/null || echo Debian`
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash nomodeset"
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=""

And then save by hitting Ctrl-O, then exit nano with Ctrl-X, then simply run:

sudo update-grub

I dont think those lines are necessary. Ive never had to do that. The answer is the one with the green tick.
For making it boot after installation of Ultimate Edition...add nomodeset in /boot/grub/grub.cfg.....

i try the input of nomodeset before quite splash.

what was different was I seen a red line go across bottom of boot screen

then about 4 lines of text, so fast I can't make them out but 1st line i did see some thing clamav and [fail] to the right and if im not mistaken the next three lines all said [ok] at right side.

mind u earlier I made note about errors and they as well related to clamav.

any further idea's?

as I just can't make heads or tails of this I have never had any problems installing or running any flavor of linux, and on top of that 3.8 installed and ran just like all the rest.

Are you able to boot Ultimate Edition? Does it stall the boot process?

If you are able to get to the desktop, just ignore that clamav error.

i guess stall the boot process is sorta like it, it will simply be black screen and cursor blink on and on and on.

all other OS boot into them just fine

Ultimate Edition 4.0 is still in development stage. :|
To get it working successfully you will need to boot up from another linux installation and chroot and disable clamav(http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1951146&page=2)..... :roll:
Ofcourse thats only if you are more than familiar with linux.

Otherwise you will have to wait for some time before Ultimate Edition 4.0 becomes stable.
TheeMahn is off for holidays.

Ultimate Edition 3.8 should be fine for now.

on a blinking cursor screen press F1 or F2 and see what you get...
If you are able to get a terminal, chances are you can get ahead by disabling clamav updating..

im a bit familiar but by no means MORE than familiar.

is there perhaps a way to upgrade to 4.0 from 3.8? as I said I have no issues to install and use 3.8.

and I don't what to particularly start from scratch again some months down the road if I can't do an upgrade.

is this clamav in 3.8 as well? and if so why would there be this problem in 4.0?

No, there is no way you can upgrade from Ultimate Edition 3.8 to Ultimate Edition 4.0.
Since Ultimate Edition is based on ubuntu and ubuntu is Not a rolling distro.

ok back to 3.8 I suppose.

a bit confused on not being able to upgrade from 3.8 to 4.0 . based on ubuntu i have upgraded ubuntu several times over :?:

any word on when installer will be clear of such clamav permissions error?

one other thing I added the theme repository and 2 icon packages always fail, one at 41mb sise and the other at 105mb I believe it was. not sure why but they get to downloading then after some time it just says failed. , this is running 3.8 of course.

did not get 4.0 too boot but my much appreciate your efforts pam, ;) <BREW>

oh hey one last thing, and this is for 3.8 . I HATE HATE HATE the white text on the grub loader grey background, but EVERY single time I try change text or pic in grub customizer I no longer see boot menu only the grey background so can't boot ANY os. it seemed rather straight forward, edit and save but , the result was the same every time.
