Why is it, when I installed UE3.4 I had to remove my current video card ASUS GTX550Ti and put in my XFX 9800GTX+. Install update using additional driver. After that reinstall my new video card, and vola it worked.. Put with EU3.3 I did not have to do that. Just popped in the disk and it loaded with no issue at all with my GTX550TI. I'm currently only runing 3.3 but just cruious..

lol Nice topic heading. If every driver from every manufacture was included in the distro, it would be to large to fit on disk. Remember Ultimate Edition is based off ubuntu, so my guess is that ubuntu didnt support that card in 12.04. Im sure you could have edited the boot parameters which would allow you to keep that gpu inplace, then update after the fact. Glad you figured it out and didn't give up...

Those are the symptoms of "bad drivers" or "failing texture units" in you 550ti-- ( a hardware fault).

Its better to use Nvidia proprietary drivers as they more capable. :)

I had the same issue with my crossfire 6790 config until the card would artifact then go on to distort the color of the entire screen...much to my inspection one card was faulty and got it RMA'ed.
The same problem in windows would manifest as a BSOD under GPU strain.

Ya but this happened when trying to install Ultimate Edition 3.4 for the first time.. I had no issues when installing Ultimate Edition 3.3 or even windows.. I found it odd as Ultimate Edition 3.3 is based on Ubuntu 11.10 and 3.4 on 12.04.

THe important thing is you got it working ........
and hopefully your card isnt bad <BREW>

In my experience 12.04 problems are not severe.
