Audio/Video (etal) Drivers [SOLVED]

The Ultimate Guide for the rest of us

Audio/Video (etal) Drivers [SOLVED]

Postby erko » Mon Jan 16, 2012 3:44 pm

I suspect this one has been queried before . . .

I have an older HP Pavilian dv1000 Notebook, formerly w/ WIN XP and now exclusively w/ Ultimate Edition v/3.0. After initially resolving some wrinkles, the machine runs really well I think. And I have high expectations for the future Ultimate Edition v/ 3.2.

Yet, I am concerned about acquiring updated drivers for video & audio, etc. HP does not support a Linux distro OS.

What, if any, are my options to take care of the fundamental driver update applications?

Thank you much, in advance! :)

Thanks, "Blackwolf!"

What I got after following your instructions was the Additional Drivers window. At the top of the window it says: "No proprietary drivers are in use on this system."

What, if anything, do I do next?

Thank you in advance! :)

Sorry for the delay, Blackwolf - I've been VERY busy w/ other stuff!

I quick grabbed what I thought might be pertinent, and I'm sure if any of it is there is also a lot of garbarge. But, here is what I acquired . . .

Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 1.60GHz, 2050MB (302MB used), 1280x768 pixels, Mesa DRI Intel(R) 915GM GEM 20100330 DEVELOPMENT x86/MMX/SSE2, ICH4 - Intel ICH6, Pavilion-dv1000, Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200/2915 Network Driver, soundcore Core sound module, i915 Intel Graphics, video ACPI Video Driver, Intel Corporation Mobile 915GM/GMS/910GML Express Graphics Controller (rev 03) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]), Intel Corporation Mobile 915GM/GMS/910GML Express Graphics Controller (rev 03), Intel Corporation 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 03), Intel(R) Celeron(R) M processor 1.50GHz.

. . . I'm on the run for now. I'll b-back tomorrow.

Thanks much in advance! :)

Audio/Video (etal) Drivers

Hi Blackwolf!

I want to get to this right off the bat before I get on to the rest later in the day . . .

For reply to your initial question: Affirmative! My (older) notebook is running and okay ...with maybe slightly flickering video once in a while.

Yes! If this is the same program that you're talking about: "CompizConfig Settings Manager," I can get into it!

Thanks, again! :)

Audio/Video (etal) Drivers [SOLVED]

Postby erko » Thu Jan 19, 2012 8:54 pm

Hi Blackwolf, again!

I ran all your given terminal scripts. Thank you so much!

Wow!!!
I can't be for absolute sure but I think I upgraded & updated everything and everybody, plus their dog!!! :D It went so quick (plus, the terminology [names of the various programs] that I am not used to yet) that I can only guess that all was taken care of in a few seconds! (I sure wish I knew how to script all of this stuff in the terminal!)

I'll tell you, the longer, and more often that I mess in this Ultimate Edition OS, the more that I REALLY like it! (MS eat you heart out!!! ...Course, that's probably why they want to block these Linux distros w/ WIN 8?!)

Anyway, Blackwolf, I'm thinkin' you did a dynamite job and I really appreciate your help - truly!!! :)

I'm also thinkin' I can close this one out - SOLVED!

Thank you, once again!

~Regards, Lee
