Go back to the downloads folder and try right-clicking on the Dropbox package and selecting open with gdebi.
This a Deb package installer.
I believe Drobbox is downloaded via Sourceforge so installation isn't always straightforward
Otherwise have you looked elsewhere than the downloads folder?( i.e the menu )
It may be listed under Internet, accessories, or whatever, in which case it will have an Icon.
If not the package probably needs unpacking before installation. Check back with fuller details after you have tried the above.
P.S.
If gdebi opens it, it will install Dropbox automatically, but you may still have to search for it in the menu ! :P

Okay...Admin-Amir, your workarounds have helped me well in the past. Great stuff. As to your first reply, no, I hadn't, but I have now. I got a message to "restart Nautilus". I clicked the "restart" button and it's still not working. What kind of "more info" do you require?

Billie Cowie: I did install it with gdebi, and, It IS "in the menu"! However, it doesn't open or allow me to configure my (existing) Dropbox account. No matter if I "put it on the desktop", or the bar, or just click it in the menu.

Admin-Amir: This particular workaround didn't work. At least not yet. I'll try it again, as your workaround for Broadcom NICs took a couple of tries.

Heh heh...TOLD you I was a n00b!

Edit to add: Clicking on the workaround link gives me a message "Could not find package:Mint-Dropbox".

<BREW> <BREW> <BREW> :D Love that post!!! ;)

Thank you that made my day. <BREW>

OK - so about Dropbox , After you install Dropbox you need to let it load (it take some time - the process).
on the 64 bit all work out of the box - and on the 32 we look for workaround the issues yet.
hope that After the installation you have restart the machine and then try.
Dropbox need restart of the system first.

let's take part by part from your post and solve them with test on your machine.
please post back om the issue ( so I will find for you one more option).

And thank you for your post. <BREW> :D

As a last resort and presuming you haven't tried this already, you could move your the dropbox package from downloads to trash, delete, then start again.
This time ,open the main pull-down menu at top-left, go to System, Places, Synaptic Package Manager and download via sypnaptic. Type Dropbox in the search-field and wait, then mark Dropbox for installation when/if it appears ( it should be there ) then click " apply",-it should then download. Next close download window when download is complete and everything should be automatically installed in the right place. That's all I can suggest. If it appears in Synaptic it should take care of everything for you.

Tried it all....
I sincerely apologize for the delay in getting back here, but a flareup prevented it for a day or sio and then, for some reason, I was getting a 403 and "Forbidden" message. All seems well, now.

Tried it from the repositories. Tried it from Dropbox. Tried it every way I could figure out, with the help of "yous guys". For some reason, it just refuses to join the context menus. For that matter, I can't even get to the registration dialog. It's not "THE" biggie, as my Samba sharing is working fine and "playing nice" with my other computers...(A FIRST for me. Thanks, U/E!)...but just like Ultimatix, it's THERE, so I would LIKE for it to work. Dropbox worked well enough with many of the other distros I have tried...

B-C, you've given EXCELLENT "boots-on-the-ground" answers, and A-A's fixes are all but legendary. I'm not closing the book on this just yet, but I have to call it at least a "chapter" of it "read", so to speak. There's so much more in U/E that I need to explore, and, so many more questions I'll have!

Thanks again for all the help...if you can think of anything else, though...POST IT! Thanks!

Rev. Lou
