Sorry but I am struggling.
I am willing to migrate from windows where I think that I am reasonably competent and I write applications.

A couple of issues that I have hit in the first half day. I haven't got past trying to install and run Thunderbird yet?

1, I wish to access the software centre to install a new version of Thunderbird. It asks for my password and seems to accept my password as no error message appears, but nothing further happens at all. I tried not entering the password and get an immediate error message so I guess that the password is working but that Ultimate Edition is not responding or am I missing something?

2. When I downloaded Thunderbird it did just that and nothing more, No offer to install or anything. Is this normal?

3. i have set up the existing Thunderbird as per my existing computer, Thunderbird gives no error message relating to connection but does not seem to connect. I use IMAP so it should fill up with my existing folders and emails but nothing. How can I test that the connection is being made? I see no test button. Firefox is working fine and worked as soon as I plugged in the router cable which was great.

Many thanks for any help given

Actually the easiest way to install software is to go to Ubuntu Tweak and choose which software you want and go from there. I am away from by Ultimate Edition box,but will post how tos if someone else doesn't before tonight
