Startup sound- can I stop it?

Postby baltimorebytes » Thu Aug 18, 2011 11:15 am

Hey all. I know this will be a super rookie question but here goes. I run 2.9 as a dual boot, with default to Ultimate. I haven't used windows since I got Ultimate Yea! I am completely new to Linux so I'm not sure where and what controls what. I'd like to disable the startup sound (rich rising synthesizer). Where can I find that control.

Also- I could use a good Linux for dummies primer online. Not so much programming, but something that deals in the different applications that I use as part Ultimate Edition.

Thanks everyone

Go to System -> Preferences -> Starup Applications
Look for “GNOME Login Sound” in the list. If you don’t want to hear anything at startup, uncheck this box.

And google is your friend, I myself switched to Ultimate Edition from windfows a little over a month ago and google has helped me learn so much.
