Annoying problem with Firefox

Over the last week or so, each time I use Firefox and then close it (whether I save tabs or not), the next time I go to open it, I get a box telling me it is already running and to close all instances of it, before proceeding.
In system monitor it shows Firefox.bin as sleeping and I have to end process before I can use Firefox again.
It doesn't happen with Chrome.
It isn't affecting anything, it has just become annoying that I have to remember to run system monitor to kill it, so I don't have a problem next time.
I just wonder what has happened to cause this to suddenly start happening.

I am eagerly awaiting Ultimate Edition 3.0 as I know this will all be solved with the new install. But still, it has me wondering.

had that happen on multiple platforms too. I think FF tends to have a long load time, and I get "clickitis"

I've never suffered this problem before and there has been times when the computer hasn't been used for 2 days or more and Firefox is still running in the background.
Still, using Chrome now and that's okay.

I had a similar problem sometimes, though I think( in my case ) it seemed to depend on whether I tried to close Firefox from close-tab or quit. The problem arose when I first used Firefox and closed tab thinking it would do just that and I would then be able to type another URL or choose quit, but it doesn't seem to work that way. Whenever I close-tab, Firefox closes completely-or so I thought!
When I next use my computer and start Firefox I get the same message and then I restart to clear it. It tells me to close tabs and restart, but since no tabs have been open I can only restart the computer. It does solve the problem but is still annoying.I don't use close-tab at all anymore but always quit Firefox completely. This doesn't happen with Chrome though.
I just thought it an idiosyncracy of Firefox but from what I have read it isn't.
Has anyone else had this problem , is it Firefox or is it Ubuntu that's the problem, or am I just doing something wrong? :?

1029 systems moved to Linux

All use and love firefox

Ranging from

5 and 6 versions

No one has ever complained about such problems

I my self have never seen it on Linux my self

I my self find firefox to be faster loading then chromium or chrome or opera.

I think that my approach would be to remove and then reinstall Firefox. If you use the FEBE extension, you can backup your other extensions, your preferences, your bookmarks, cookies, and so on before removing Firefox. Then when you reinstall, you can see whether or not a clean install will create the same problem. If it doesn't happen then, you use FEBE to restore all your customizations, etc. If the problem recurs after you restore all your stuff via FEBE, then it likely was cause by corruption in the profile.

FEBE rates WAY up there in terms of usefulness in a variety of circumstances.
