Hello all, a brand new user here,
just finished installing my 5th Linux today, was getting myself a new computer, I just installed 2.9 an hour ago and had the same problem your describing here after update, if you happen to see this again or anyone else then I believe this is a graphic problem indeed, and will leave you at the command promt istead of running X, I went in and deleted xorg.conf file cause system will load default settings if it cant find xorg.conf file in /etc/X11 folder, what has changed from old days is that xorg.conf file is not needed so dont worry if you cant find it after reboot, but system works fine LoL you can generate a new file if you like but thats a longer story.
Commands used...
# cd /etc/X11
# mv xorg.conf xorg.conf_BAK1
hope it helps, off to read about this new system, see you all out there, regards Huginn
