Sorry im late in answering you, i had to go to the Lab. The only other distro's i have installed and uses were;
Linux mint 7 (works very good),mint 10 very good no problems, mint 11 issues with just getting wireless but worked it out, Ubuntu 11.4 after a while got everything work but it was unstable, fusion14.1 wireless issues,opens use worked very nicely, and now so far my favorite is Ultimate Edition 2.9 but I can not get Internet.

ultimate edition 2.6.1 or 2.7 or oz unity 1.0 or oz unity redux64 sweet spot bud.
Distro's made for that laptop.

I to like OP have just downloaded UE2.9 and unable to make a connection to internet. Just got a better spec computer than my old one so can now run Linux
I downloaded the 64bit version because of processor
Spec:
memory 1GB (shows as 934.8MB)
processor 0 and processor 1: AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual core 4000+
Disk: 300GB Maxtor as 1 partition ext4
Motherboard:MSI K9N6SGM-V
I am trying to use onboard LAN to connect with my cable modem (ntl 250) to my ntlworld ISP

From menu>System>Administration>
Network Settings: gives 3 tabs general, DNS and Hosts
Network Tools: gives 8 tabs first tab is devices, if i select eth0 and configure this gives>
Network connections: gives 5 tabs last one DSL where I can then select edit and then
eventually add ntlusername and password.
A little bit of knowledge is dangerous because I don't know what I am doing with it.
Please can someone help me
