Code: Select all
sudo modprobe b43
dmesg | grep b43
iwconfig

system/administration/additional drivers/ active the b43 driver

sudo su
echo b43 >> /etc/modules
exit

b43-fwcutter needs to be installed first. If it is, this will activate and install the b43** series drivers.

as for ethernet, we need to know the card in question.

Code: Select all
lspci

Post the output.

As long as fw-cutter is installed yes.

To my recollection it comes preinstalled in Ultimate Edition 2.9.

oops forgot a step. put this between steps 1 and 2.

activate via additional drivers then run last set of commands.

check synaptic package manager and see if b43-fwcutter is installed please

your ethernet I know is native ubuntu 11.04 and related distro's supported

I have gotten it to work via updated kernel and updated linux firmware in Ultimate Edition 2.9 but wasn't supported out of the box.

What system is this ?

I know your wireless is supported just fine. Might need to install bcmkernel source thou.

I always keep a USB wifi card on hand for times like these that is supported out of the box. So you can download and install the needed drivers.

According to Syn. Package manager, the b43 cutter is installed, so i checked to see if the bcm kernel source was installed and its not....without an internet connection i can not download anything....so I checked out the thread that you sent me and well the command "dmesg | rep eth0" did nothing.....The system i'm running is a dell insprion 1501 2gb ram and 64x2.......Also i did an 'rfkill list' check and it stated

dell-wifi: wireless LAN
soft blocked: yes
Hard blocked: yes

1: phy0: Wireless LAN
soft blocked: no
hard blocked: no
