Ubuntu has disabled 'root account'. To enable it one must use:
sudo passwd root
Ultimate Edition and Linux Mint are both Ubuntu-based, so is all the above the same for these two distros?

This will allow you to set the root password up for the first time.

Code: Select all
sudo passwd root && sudo passwd -u root

Remember, only one way to infect or frack up Linux.

Poking around in root or installing via root / sudo.

Only use sudo or root with trusted sources.

If you need to start a app as root.

alt f2

Check the box run in terminal and add sudo before the proper name of the app.

I find a little help and education keeps people from digging them self's a hole. Hope this helps.
