May I introduce myself?

The Ultimate Guide for the rest of us

May I introduce myself?

Postby dwflo » Thu Feb 04, 2010 4:53 pm

Greetings Ultimate Forum,

My name is David Florence...you may call me Dave. :D I am 61, retired from Hollywood, no wife or kids, just me.
Disabled Vietnam Vet (USMC) and served in 1967-1969. Live in Albuquerque, NM USA.
Started using computers in 1985 with DOS 2.5 and discontinued with Window$7. Been using Linux since 2006, when I installed Mepis as my first distro. Now I have 3 distros running, Mandriva, LinuxMint and Ultimate...no winblow$. I like them all, too.
I have to tell you, this forum is one of the best looking I have seen. With my wide-screen monitor, the background is great.
Also wish to comment on the courteous attitude the administrators and moderators have with "noobs". The information is thorough and easy to understand, replies are prompt and concise. Can't ask for anything better.

Cheers,
Dave

Welcome to the forum, hope you enjoy your stay.

DOS 6.2 was better than 6.22. They took doublespace out of 6.2 and made it 6.22 because stacker was taking them to court for stealing the code. What a flashback.
I'll never forget running win 3.1 and norton speed disk and watching windows disappear into a single dot in the middle of the screen. The solution was to run doublespace /mount (to mount the cvf which was windows) but the woman wouldn't have it. No way was she going to let me run ANY command with doublespace in it. It was her pc so she had it her way. Live and learn.
