gnome power manager

Postby marathon2422 » Wed Jan 20, 2010 5:55 pm

Hi, Guys my first post, although i have been with Ultimate Edition since 2.2. and now have 2.5 x64 on 500gb master drive
and XP on the 100gb slave

I screwed up and messed with some settings, and need some help to get past the log in screen :- I am getting an error window in the top right corner of the screen "gnome power manager not installed properly"see administrator. I have searched and tried to cure it myself.I can use the terminal, but am only a beginner.
I would appreciate some help,as i do not want to lose what is on the drive.
I have encryption on my folder, and automatic backups running, so i cannot move folders( do not have permission etc )

I have just bought a 1.5tb ext drive, so i have room to wriggle,my plan was to move my files i want to keep and reinstall, with a /home partition,on the 500gb,so i could upgrade and /or reinstall leaving the /home partition "as is':. and the 1.5tb as a /home/media storage
My other half loves using Ultimate Edition 2.5 :- 23 seconds to boot up
Theeman Thank You and your admin for all your work

Colin

I would...

Code: Select all
sudo apt-get --purge remove gnome-power-manager

Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install gnome-power-manager

...Might work. You should be able to copy any files or folders with the live dvd before you run those commands.

I tried to move or copy my home folder, but it will not let me do anything. I went ahead and ran the commands you gave me they ran their course, but did not make any difference.
I guess I will be reinstalling ,with a /home partition.
I do Thank you for your reply, and help

Did you use the live dvd to try to copy your /home?

Yes ,I did use the live cd,did not do any good either,I have gone for a reinstall now, with a home partition.I should have done that before now,but was always a bit wary of the partitioner, well i managed to do it.
thanks for trying to help me.
I saw another thread about ,an out of frequency warning,i have had that at times ,although a reboot would fix it,i have an old `e` machine with ATI graphics,I will bookmark your reply to that one in case it rears its ugly head again.

many thanks Colin
