How do i uninstall Ultimate Edition?? [Solved]

Hi guys,new to everything here. =p
i jus recently installed my Ultimate Edition 2.3 on my laptop.

but when i try to remove it(i deleted the partition), the computer couldnt boot up anymore.
it struck at the screen where it say 'could not find loader' then Error 22.
-so i reinstall it using the UE2.3 Disk and everythings works back normal.

sooo what if i need to temporary uninstall UE2.3, how do i do it??

sorry, if my english is'nt that good. (too tired to re-edit, going sleep)

thanks, btw, i'm a noob to computering-programming sort.

any steps of "easy-understanding" would be highly appreciate. =p

Hello Soulblade and welcome to the U.E Forum.

to solve the issue,download the parted magic,burn it ISO to Disc,
and then you can just delete your HDD.
after that just make the fixmbr so your first sector will be written new.
then you can install any system that you want.

Hi Soulblade,
A quick explanation for you (I am working on the assumption that Ultimate Edition 2.3 is not your only O/S on this Hard Drive). When you install Ultimate Edition 2.3, the installation process creates a boot loader on your Hard Drive called Grub. Grub allows you to choose which O/S you wish to run but it will overwrite any existing boot loaders on the Master Boot Record (MBR). This really causes no issues unless you do what you just did - delete the partition with Ultimate Edition 2.3 on it. Re-installing Ultimate Edition 2.3 recreated Grub and all went back to normal. If you wish to remove Ultimate Edition 2.3, your procedure is fine, however after you delete the partition you must replace the MBR with the relevant one for your operating system. This is just a quick explanation. There are many ways to resolve your issue and many programs/bootloaders that you can use as well.

Main OS: Windows Vista Home Premium, SP1

basically T400 without any mod. =]

erm, so how to re-create / replace the MBR as mention?

Hi Soulblade.
I am now very concerned as to how to guide you. Your safest bet at the moment is to reinstall U.E 2.3 exactly as you had it - which according to your initial post, brought your Notebook back to a functional state (dual boot with Vista still intact I hope). If you rely on this machine for study and cannot afford issues to occur then please Do Not Experiment With Installing Operating Systems on it. By all means try them on a Live DVD or Flash Drive install - but do not risk an install on an essential machine with no backup plan should it all fall apart! If this gives you Vista back, then great! we can relax, and you can use your machine until you finish your studies. My reason for this approach is that a lot of Notebooks come with a hidden recovery partition which contains your Vista software, Drivers and default applications. If your T400 is one like this, then gambling with the MBR and possibly deleting this partition could render your Notebook useless with no means of recovery. If however, you received recovery CD's or DVD's with your unit, then Great! No problems - just make sure you back up your data..

Please advise which way you wish to proceed.

Moebius is giving you some very good advice. These factory images that come on new PC's have hidden system partitions and very wonky MBR's. (I still have nightmares about them). If you really want to remove Ultimate Edition (and I can't imagine why, it's awesome) then I would strongly suggest contacting the vendor before trying anything else. The T400 is lonovo/IBM correct? Especially if it's under warranty, I suggest either going to the vendor forums where someone has most likely had this problem before, or call them for help. I have solved this before on systems with the Vista install disks pretty quickly, but if the system is important to you, should definitely seek vendor specific assistance.

BTW, I'm new to the forum and just wanted to say "Hi" and that everyone appears so helpfull, I just thought I would add my 2 cents worth.

does re-formating brings back everything(restoring the MBR)?

But then im too lazy to reformat my laptop.
so hoping to get a way to jus return back my "MBR" so that i have only vista loader as default loader(with ubuntu remove?)

P.S: just hoping to get a idea to remove Ubuntu just in case, not that i don't like Ultimate.

No it does not. Formatting wipes a hard drive and prepares it for data storage or operating system install. It is the operating system install which creates the MBR.

The easiest way to do this is to 'borrow' a Vista CD/DVD, boot from the DVD and choose to repair. It will do the rest. You cannot use a recovery/backup CD/DVD for this.

P.S: just hoping to get a idea to remove Ubuntu just in case, not that i don't like Ultimate.

Understood. In a worst case scenario, before you do any of the above, backup your data just in case and if it all goes to hell in a handbasket, then you will have to become un-lazy and run the recovery CD's/DVD's on your system and reinstall any applications you had.

Disc 1: Start Recovery Disc
Disc 2: Operationg System Recovery Disc
Windows Vista HOME PREMIUM SP1
Disc 3: Applications and Drivers Recovery Disc

so the Vista CD/DVD u meant is the second disc?
