how to log in as root ++solved++

Postby Fyra » Sun Sep 13, 2009 4:53 am

I need to log in with admin permissions. THere is only one user (me) and I only use the one login. Usually when I need root permission, it asks for the password and I give it (be that in the gui as with Synaptic, or from a terminal after using sudo).

I have installed xammp and want to copy some files to the htdocs directory, but it won't let me copy through the gui - it tells me I lack root permissions, but it doesn't prompt for the password.

How do I do this?

I'm aware that I can copy files in the terminal window, and give myself permission with sudo. I want to do it from the gui though.

Thanks for the reply, you've been a big help.

Sorry about not finding those other posts myself; but in my defence I did try searching for the exact phrase you did (I repeated the search again just now to make sure) and returned nothing useful at all. Strangely though, you seem to be using a different search page. All I did was click on advanced search over top-right, but the page is completely different to the one you linked.

This isn't the first time I've tried searching, and found nothing useful, then been asked to search first next time. I do, but the forums advanced search feature as linked isn't very good. Where do I find the one you linked me to?
