lintian upgrade

Postby stlsaint » Sat Jul 16, 2011 8:47 pm

So i need to upgrade my lintian version. so i run command to purge but then i see that it wants to remove not only lintian but also ultimate-edition-2.7, see below. My question is why does apt want to get rid of the Ultimate Edition repo?
I know i have seen this before but it has been a while and i forgot the reasoning!! ;)

stlsaint@devcore:~/projects/lxdm/lxdm_trunk/debian$ sudo apt-get purge lintian

Man you see that list of apps that will be removed!! :o
Thats way to many to be trying to re-install. Hopefully another member may be able to give some more insight. My next question would be why is lintian which is a native package to debian be so tied into the Ultimate Edition repo as it is??

agreed, not cool.

Also looks a bit odd. But i also see this application (deb checking) roots its self into every last deb installed.

I also read a butt load of complaints about such activity.

Hi

It seems to me you are skipping some of the info in the last 7 lines in the quote from your terminal:
Use 'apt-get autoremove' to remove them.
The following packages will be REMOVED:
lintian* ultimate-edition-2.7*
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 2 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

After this operation, 1,733MB of additional disk space will be used.

As I read it, it says that you will have to actively use "
Code: Select all
'apt-get autoremove'
to remove the Ultimate Edition packages

If you enter "y" you only remove the 2 lintian packages.

- but better let GURU confirm it <BREW>
