Compiz problems

Postby adfero » Mon Apr 14, 2008 11:03 am

Hi im new to ultimate edition so i haven't quite figured everything out yet.

Ive been having problems with the compiz control panel. It isnt in the system preferences tab as it usually was. is there a specal way to edit the compiz settings in the ultimate edition?

compiz is working fine, there isn't any problem with the setup i don't think.i just cant edit my settings.

sorry for asking this ,searched through the site and couldn't find a guide for starting out.

any help would be appreciated. :D

I hope this helps you, as I just went thru some of the same problems...System...Preferences...Advanced Desktop Effects Settings...This will bring up ...Compiz Config Settings Manager, where you can edit settings, another way to get to this Compiz-Manager is thru ...Applications...System Tools...Compiz Fusion Icon...A left click on this will add this Icon to the top panel on the right hand side... Now if you right click this little Icon, it will also launch The Compiz Config Settings Manager... If you look at the post under GENERAL DISCUSSION titled Replace launcher with icon, Cowboy has added some great screen shots that show where things are

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
compiz-fusion-plugins-main: Conflicts: compiz-compcomm-plugins-main but 0.0.0+git20070612-0ubuntu1 is to be installed
E: Broken packages

so from what im getting ive to resolve the conflicting plugins , do you know how i should go about this.

cheers again

i dont have advanced desktop settings showing up in system .. preferences. neither do i have it in applications .. system tools.. compiz fusion

thats my main problem, compiz is up and running, but i dont have any of the mentioned settings showing up on my computer.

its really odd. ive recently did a fresh install just to make sure there wasnt a problem with my install but the same things happened.

You can open up Synaptic Package Manager, and do a search for that file listed with the error and select it and then goto "fix broken packages" up in the File/Edit/View bar at the top. Hope that works for you. Other wise I would dig around in the compiz section of this forum for some steps you may have missed.

The upgrade icon on your desktop would have done this for you as well, most overlook that. Sorry for being late on posting as always. Busy , busy, busy.
