Compiz configuration manager doesnt start.

Hello! I am a new user of Ultimate edition 1.7. I have installed compiz configuration manager. When i run compiz the cube doesnt show and when i try to get in the manager the manager doesnt start. Itried to install compiz and comp. manager from the beggining and there is the same probleme again. Consider that i have already installed my nvidia drivers.

When compiz icon is used you an change from metacity and compiz with a few clicks..

I can enable compiz from there as you do in the screenshot , but i cant get in the settings manager in order to enable the cube and the other 3d options. Compiz works correctly i thing. I try to install the compiz manager but it doesnt work.......

i try to install again and again compizconfig settings manager, and there is the following error:/usr/share/ubuntu-artwork/home/images': cannot overwrite directory
dpkg:
post-installation script error
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

and this goes on.....

OK you may try this and see if this works try

Code: Select all

dpkg --configure -a

and

Code: Select all

 sudo apt-get clean

and if it does not download right try

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get -f install

I can't remember now...but doesn't ...system...preferences..appearance...visualeffects have to be set to "EXTRA" for compiz to work??? If not...never mind, like I said I can't remember.

I follow exactly your instructions cowboy. In every installation i try to do at the end it always says: post installation script error and
the Kubuntu docs error.

I dont know what is going on.... Forgive me for the greek words. I'm from greece and i use the greek language.

The kubunut docs error is easy
Go to synaptic
select kubuntu docs
Mark for complete removal
apply
Reinstall kubuntu docs

Then try again
sudo dpkg --configure -a

Sorry didn't know you where running 1,7 with the KDE..follow LeadFingers instructions and you will be fine...

I still cant run compizcomfig manager.... but i solved the problem with the kubuntu docs!!!!
I think that i should reinstall ubuntu 1.7 and try to run it again... i have nothing to lose.. i think.. as far as i am a new user and i want to learn more about linux.
If its going to run with the second insstallation i 'll let you know.

I have to ask 2 more things:
1. Does the fact that the cube doesnt work and that the compiz comfig manager doesnt start has to do with the fact that my grafic card is 128??? Ive installed linux on my old computer in order to learn them.
2. I ve installed linux ultimate on my new computer wich is core 2 duo and has a nvidia 8800 grafic card. Why envy tells me that it cannot find drivers for my card??
