(solved)small question about kubuntu-docs and mysql-server

Postby drama » Tue Jan 29, 2008 3:41 pm

i applogise if this is a slightly redundent question. i have read the download page and noticed the warning about the error with both kubuntu-docs and mysql-server. i also noticed that it said these are solved after install. now does this mean after the install of Ultimate Edition or do i actually have to purge both packages and reinstall them? in the past ive always just purged kubuntu-docs and reinstalled it. however if its not really nessecary to do that id rather not waste bandwidth this is why i ask.

also during the initial install of Ultimate Edition i get to error warnings. the second one is very self-explainitory it says it has to do with kubuntu-docs.

however the first one says nothing. it just says there was an error with the following packages: but its blank. it doesnt say what package. then it says subprocess error /usr/bin/dpkg (or something similar) cant remember the exact path it lists jus the dpkg part. this is mostly like mysql correct? or should i be worried about something else?

p.s. great work on this release thee mahn. the theme is amazing. i really dont like the color red but just the way this theme looks is changing that. its right on point. great job.

I uninstalled Kubuntu-docs and mysql and that pretty much cleared everything right up. If yer not sure if you need mysql, then you don't need it. I also uninstalled apache while I was at it. Apparently that gets thrown in there during install too. If you need a web-server, leave it I guess, but it was just extra overhead for me.

thankx 4 the reply. while im not certain i need mysql i think i do because of mythtv. ive just heard that mysql id required for mythtv to work. i may be wrong though.

Well, no worries. MySQL is VERY lightweight for a database engine. Even if you do leave it running, I doubt you'll see much impact on system performance anyway.

Thanks, I want to make 1 point clear Zero Prime is the maker of the theme I modified it only slightly, he deserves full credit.

There would be no problem with mysql-server if I would have set the password, I think that would be totally wrong to do so to the end user, I prolly should have just not pre-installed it <-simplest solution, there are those that use mysql-server a fairly large download and felt it would be better to leave it in, kinda wishing I hadn't. Kubuntu-docs there is no way around it w/o me re-writing the package, something I do not have the time for. I may patch it into the upgrade script to purge it for the end user, now that I have some time, we will see.

I for one use mysql-server and do not run a webserver, I use it for my music please review this article.

Theme's mostly pretty nice. I'm guessin' that creature is some sort of Satanic seahorse? Maybe a linux-nerd reference to the Seahorse suite? I dunno. I like the color scheme, but the seahorse thing is a little too "Mortal Kombat" for my taste. The colors are occasionally a problem tho, since some drop-down boxes have entries that are all dark red with black text and are pretty much impossible to read. Overall I like it tho.

The sounds I'm not really a fan of. For one, I don't think the HAL thing fits with the Satanic Seahorse, hellish red and black motif of the rest of it. The worst thing is, the clips sound terrible. They sound like low-quality rips from the VHS version of the movie. If they were clear-sounding, ripped from the DVD version maybe, then it'd be bearable, but still a little out of place.

Just my humble opinion of course. I'm sure tastes vary.

Umm, it's a Dragon, even though after looking at it again I can see where you got the sea horse thing from.
