Sorry for not getting back to you sooner cowboy. I've been a little distracted with life lately (girl). I've been pretty lucky in the past with wiping things clean and starting fresh. I read the posts that you provided a link for. It seems that Acer has done a nice job at ruining a computer
I didn't think it possible to have a computer so pre-installed that even bare roots (bios) is minipulated in a way that makes it almost impossible to install a different system on the disk other than what was provided with it. I'm still "hell-bent" on getting this thing working for you! OK, so you wiped the disk completely clean with GPARTED? Formated one parition to a NTFS and left one unformatted, Then you installed the recovery discs in the drive (would be much better if they wern't "recovery" discs) and re-installed VISTA to the drive. Next you loaded Gparted again off the live session and formatted the unallocated space you left earlier to be available for Ultimate Edition, Installed Ultimate Edition and ticked write GRUB to MBR? And this did not work?
