Ultimate Edition 1.7 on Laptop(Solved)

Help & support for Ultimate Edition 1.7

I am doing that auto configuration, am getting the distro(Ultimate Edition) installed, but it is not loading. when I deleted the drives and went to reinstall win got an error cannot find image oooooooo1, that got me scared there..lol. I want to put grub with the distro, so I can manually choose the distro, if the one fails like it has i don't have to reinstall both. Does that make any sense :?:

here this I just found.. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=184981

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner cowboy. I've been a little distracted with life lately (girl). I've been pretty lucky in the past with wiping things clean and starting fresh. I read the posts that you provided a link for. It seems that Acer has done a nice job at ruining a computer ;) I didn't think it possible to have a computer so pre-installed that even bare roots (bios) is minipulated in a way that makes it almost impossible to install a different system on the disk other than what was provided with it. I'm still "hell-bent" on getting this thing working for you! OK, so you wiped the disk completely clean with GPARTED? Formated one parition to a NTFS and left one unformatted, Then you installed the recovery discs in the drive (would be much better if they wern't "recovery" discs) and re-installed VISTA to the drive. Next you loaded Gparted again off the live session and formatted the unallocated space you left earlier to be available for Ultimate Edition, Installed Ultimate Edition and ticked write GRUB to MBR? And this did not work?

Yep, did it to the letter except for the codes..partitioning was not the issue..It had something to do with the MBR..being over written by Grub. The last attempt or try because I did switch from 1.7 down to 1.6 which is almost bulletproof, Could only get to desktop if I ran in safe mode and even got the same error about cannot read sid from proc...ect.. then installed the distros, anyways just could not load the install and it was playing heck to boot anything..will post back or add to on some other posts made of the similar prob. Anyways thanks to you and Daddy, and others for the help..leaving this alone before I have to ship this
purter to factory, lol. want to circular file this thread.. ;)

here is what I found after the fact..only thing that got me back in was Super Grub.. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=184981 and http://forum.notebookreview.com/archive ... 84835.html

After further reading instead of deleting the partitions with Ultimate Edition should of re sized them with the tools Vista provides, there would of been no lose of data, since this thread is becoming to "Window-ish" I am marking this one solved. A full install maybe of Ultimate Edition would be in order but not "today". Thanks again everybody..going back to the Graphic section where I belong. ;)

a quick not. if you can try 2 get rid of that recovery partition and get the vista boot partition as the very first one. i had same prob w/ my hp that shipped w/ windows xp. it was always cause probs if that recovery partition was first. now this couldve been because it was fat32 also. jus simply deleteing it didnt do the trick either. let me see if i can dig up that howto and see if you can apply that somehow. although it was xp im sure at least some of it might apply to vista. i kno i used a app maybe acronis partiotion something or other

Well I did try to get you to give it a run on my very first post:
SuperDADDYX3 wrote:Firstly, goto Control Panel>>Administrative Tools>>Computer Management>>Storage>> Disk management
This will get you a nice GUI disk management utility that will allow you to "shrink" your main partition to squeeze your 1.7 install to. All you have to do is right click on the primary partition (C:) and select "shrink" from the menu. This program can also delete partitions, format and so on.

I know all this was just a pain in the "back-side". It sounds like the ACER won :( We were kinda doomed with the shrink option, cause of how small the partitions were.
