Sounds good cowboy. Only a note: You will not need to create 2 partitions for Windows during the partitioning stage. If needed, VISTA will do this automatically. I would just create 2- partitions - one for VISTA and one for Ultimate Edition :D Just a thought here ... When you create your partitions leave the one for Ultimate Edition unallocated, in other words do not give it a format yet, VISTA might steal it for itself.

When you get closer to that point, I'll be here for ya brother. Just keep in mind that you'll want Ultimate Edition to write GRUB so you'll be "ticking" the checkbox to write to/ over MBR on disk.

Yes point well taken, usually I am lazy and check the automatic use available free space and let the live DVD do the rest, lol. Thank you for the support, as well of the others also. :)

So what steps did you take? Did you wipe the disc clean and start from scratch? or did you just try and install from a "shrink disk" type setup?

Lol..wiped out sda2 and sda3..and set up the disc in this configuration #1 ping. Going to reinstall Vista figuring it would automatically configure its set-up. The problem I had after reinstalling Vista it would not load..? Did it with the installation disks. Did it again same thing all I was getting was a black window with a flashing cursor..no continuance with the reinstall..got out a CD of Super Grub and found the factory-installed backup boom after and hour..had Vista back..image #2..but minus sda3 in Win..D. Well used 1.7 disk to go back and set up the partitions again in safe graphic mode..still loads good, but was getting a message can't read sid proc /1/stat, and several more like that with different numbers..np it was getting me to desktop..In Ultimate Edition redid the partitions to have a sda3 in ntfs and reinstalled Vista another duplicated scenario..out comes the Super Grub disk again..image #$..ok feel better on to the install of 1.7 to the unallocated space..installed it..but when the install was loading got the BusyBox v1.1.3 message..this is with also 1.6 was keeping my partition set up the same no need to touch that now..

Well, thats good. You have VISTA back and happy, Now all you should have to do is use GParted to format the unallocated space to your liking for installation of 1.6/1.7. You have a lap-top, so sometimes the Power Settings in bios will have to be tuned to agree with Ultimate Edition. Who knows what ACER did with the bios settings. What is required by VISTA to run and what ACER has done for thier pre-installed system are two different things. idk, but I think your on the right track with your partitions though ;) Like I said, you should now be able to go back in and format and setup your partitions for Ultimate Edition now.

I have been playing around with it, the problem I have is getting I believe the monitor, which there is none but a screen to set up. It's a 15.4 " WXGA high brightness (220-nits)acer crystalbrite TFTLCD 1280X800 pix 8ms rt, it's seems on starting the loading of the distro it freezes at the configuration of the video. Also thinking of not putting grub at MBR, for some reason or another there is a problem there, another words have to choice what distro from the bios...did that make sense..need a break from this. lol ;) I can get 1.6..1.7..and even 7.10 installed just can't get to the goodies.. :)

Are you just doing the automatic install thing? letting it configure the install using the largest continuous free space? If you are doing that, there should not be a problem really. It looks like you never really got rid of the first partition on your drive, why not? I figured we'd start from scratch. Anyway, This might be the reason why you cant boot the OS without going into bios and selecting a drive first. I did a dual boot with VISTA and let GRUB take over the MBR. Everything worked out sweet and simple.
