First attempt with GIMP

Postby galrix1 » Thu Jul 30, 2009 2:05 am

Hello everyone,

Was watching a vid on making metallic text on youtube, and thought i'd give it a try. This is my very first completed wallpaper (took about 6 tries), would like your thoughts on it.

I am flattered and honored that an admin and moderator like a newbie's attempts at art. :)
My second attempt didn't take as many tries, and i still don't think it's the best i can do but here it is.

Gimp is powerful, but not a program you learn to handle in a day ;)
I have tried Xara Xtreme - got it with "add/remove" and it's handy for not to complicated work. After toying with it a cuple of hours I've got this:

Ubuntu minimal w/ Mate desktop 64bit
Asrock N68-GE3 UCC - AMD X4 640 - 4 Gb Kingston ram
OCZ Vertex 4 SSD 60 Gb + 500 Gb WD sATA HD

Ultimate Edition 2.9 64bit
Asrock 2core 1333-2.66G - 2 Gb Kingston ram
750 Gb Samsung WD sATA HD
Plextor DVD-RW - Asus 24" fladskærm

That looks pretty sweet. I will have to check that program out when I get a chance. I do like gimp and find it fairly easy to learn as you go. I have created a couple backgrounds with it and it is pretty nice. The trick is to find a good brush pack to add to it so you have a lot more toys to play with. I am pretty much a noob with gimp but it does not seem to be as difficult as I had once thought.

In time - I'm sure - I will be comfortable with Gimp too ;)
