numlocks on

Postby pch.shot » Fri Aug 08, 2008 10:35 pm

Is there a particular reason why the numlocks are not set to on with most Linux distros. Is it impossible to do this(maybe there is software pre-installed that can do this) . I don't know anyone who does not want them on. I guess this is more of a pet peeve than a suggestion. I would like an answer here, please and thank you!! lol, pch

Mine are always on and never have a problem with it. Are you talking about after a fresh install- the very first time you try to use them? I think I have noticed that my self, but after setting it the first time, its fixed for good.

They are set to on in the bios. It's the same issue on all my boxes. Keep in mind I try out many different distros on a weekly basis. When you install an operating system you should have a option to select on or off. You have to install numlockx and edit your init default file everytime you install an operating system(Linux). Like I said it is just a pet peeve of mine. I think there was one distro I tried out that had that option(can't remember which one). This distro should also have this option. It's a small thing, but these are the kind of things that turn the average Joe or Joan off Linux.
Linux needs to become more idiot proof. Most people would just give up. Not everyone is a stubborn mule like me. Just a thought!! pch

If you try the same thing twice and it does not work, you are dedicated. If you try it more than twice you are an idiot. lol,pch
