The only reason I ask is that I downloaded 1.8 gamers and had about 250 updates to download upon the completion of install. (Do not want to sound like I am complaining, just want to save some from having to download so much after install)

I have been using "uck" for about a month now, and it works great. I had to make a custom install for work, and used "uck" to upgrade the distro and install some needed apps for work purposes. I used a EMC2 Ubuntu 8.04 release, as this was for a CNC machine. I have also updated Ultimate Edition and official releases, with no problems.

Just a thought. ;)

Hey strider...is that for x86(32bit) only?? all I see on SourceForge is i386 version... 8-)

strider5236 wrote:I think you will be pleasantly surprised. I am loving this little jem. It doesn't do everything I would like, but installing all the packages that I like is a huge plus for me. I have been using this and Reconstructor to get the install that I want. I will continue to use this method until I get good enough to build from scratch like TheeMahn. :D And yes, to answer your question, I found it on SourceForge after a Google search on how to build custom distro. I hope you like this as much as I do. <BREW>

Well alrighty then ;) already d/l'd it and will give it a try...I was/am using ReMasterSys & APTonCD to get mine done...last backup I did I musta not been payin' to close attention and glitched somethin' up...backup didn't work..some updates I did playin' around with Ubuntu 8.10A3 messed things up totally, even over on my 1.8x64 side (video settings were totally annihilated)..still tryin' to figure that one out...don't know what happened, but you can bet your last mule ride down the Grand Canyon I'll be ready if it ever happens again  Thanks again stri <BREW> 8-)

Well..so far the only thing I can contribute it to was that when I installed 8.10A3, I picked SDA1 (where my 1.8x64 is) to install/update Grub...otherwise I didn't do anything different than I do installing any distro...that's the only link I can figure it too...
strider5236 wrote:One thing I would like to add. After you complete a build with "uck", you will need to log out and log back in to access your folders, and after you copy out your ISO file from the temp folder, you will need to delete it before another build takes place.
Thanks for the info...will write that down so I don't forget it  Thanks again stri...will let ya know how it all goes when I get the chance (and time) to play with it 8-)

I know I'm a day late and a dollar short on this thread, but....
TheeMahn does include updates (or at least he always used to). Its just that by the time it gets released and the end user installs it, your not up to date.

In regards to uck, I haven't ever used it.

This is how I make my 'private' distribution:
1) Start fresh!!!! New install makes all the difference in the world!
2) Start the updates (sudo apt-get update & sudo apt-get upgrade)
3) Install all your custom software and repositories (include remastersys & apt-on-cd)
4) Download/ install all your custom themes/ wall-papers/ FF themes/ upsplash/ GDM & etc. and install them in the appropriate file locations!!!
5) When your all 'Happy' with your install, erase all cache from your ~/.mozilla file folder and other temp folders that store cache (don't want all your porn links popping up in the bookmark section of FF when you give a copy to grandma to play with ;) )
6) Copy entire contents (this is just my method, I don't believe that you need to copy everything, but I do and it doesn't hurt!!!) of your home directory over to /etc/skel directory
7) Open up remastersys and start the process. (4-cores make a huge difference!!!! 8-) )
8) Burn the .iso file located in the /home/remastersys direcotry and enjoy your new distro!!!

As a side note ...
You can get as crazy as you want with remastersys, run it 32-bit/ 64-bit/ custom kernels, etc. It will take it and use it ;)

OK, I let the cat outta da bag! Give credit where credit is due .... remastersys & Ultimate Edition forum!

Hello klarissa.

Did you have setup your BIOS to BOOT from the usb device ?
You have to set the First BOOT to your USB Device.
