I am trying out the custom build process, but keep getting stuck at the same point. I am trying to replace the artwork.so and repack the initrd.gz and all that. Here is what I have come up with, not sure if this is rite or not, still pretty new at this,

#replace usplash perm
cd /usr/lib/usplash/
rm usplash-default.so
rm usplash-artwork.so
rm usplash-theme-ubuntu.so

wget http://ubuntusoftware.info/upgrades/usp ... default.so

cp usplash-default.so usplash-artwork.so
cp usplash-default.so usplash-theme-ubuntu.so
rm usplash-default.so
ln -sf /usr/lib/usplash/usplash-theme-ubuntu.so /usr/lib/usplash/usplash-artwork.so

mkdir initrd
cd initrd
cat /home/strider/extract-cd/casper/initrd.gz | gzip -d | cpio -i
cat /home/strider/edit/usr/lib/usplash/initrd.gz | gzip -d | cpio -i

2. Replaced ubuntu-artwork.so in /lib/usplash/ with dragon etc made with TUM (TheeMahns Uspash Maker)
sudo cp /Home/strider/edit/usr/lib/usplash/usplash-artwork.so usr/lib/usplash/usplash-artwork.so

3. Re-package initrd.gz
cd /home/strider/extract-cd/casper/
sudo rm initrd.gz
cd initrd/
find | cpio -H newc -o | gzip > /home/strider/edit/usr/lib/usplash/initrd.gz

5. move repacked initrd.gz to extract-cd folder recalculate md5sum and built the iso.
cd /Home/strider/edit/usr/lib/usplash/
sudo cp initrd.gz /home/strider/extract-cd/casper/

I have tried this way and your way

mkdir initrd
cd initrd
cat ../extract-cd/casper/initrd.gz | gzip -d | cpio -i

2. Replaced ubuntu-artwork.so in /lib/usplash/ with dragon etc made with TUM (TheeMahns Uspash Maker)
sudo cp ../usplash-artwork.so usr/lib/usplash/usplash-artwork.so

3. Re-package initrd.gz
cd ..
sudo rm initrd.gz
cd initrd/
find | cpio -H newc -o | gzip > ../initrd.gz

5. move repacked initrd.gz to extract-cd folder recalculate md5sum and built the iso.
cd ..
sudo cp initrd.gz extract-cd/casper/

But I keep getting error:
gzip: stdn: unexpected end of file
cpio: premature end of archive

I am not sure what I am doing wrong! :?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks TheeMahn. <BREW>

You kidding us all, right? You can use Remastersys to make a copy of your setup. Or you can install a basic Ubuntu, add all the stuff you like and make a remaster of that. You can install a command line version of Debian and build it from the ground up. You can start with a kernel and build a whole operating system if you have the time. The possibilities are endless. No one is going to teach you Linux, you must learn it for yourself.
That's the true beauty of it. You have total control over what you do if you possess the knowledge which comes from trial and error. Mostly error for the first six months. If you are smart and hard working, within a year you should have a good handle on it.
