:)
It's the user-friendliness that counts. Sometimes I find myself in the terminal doing something wondering why nobody has made a GUI for it yet. I'm definitely not afraid of the terminal and actually like it alot, but I'm of the belief that linux should be at a point where the user(basic or guru) should only need to go into the terminal for something obscure or that the terminal is required. krusader is the first app I always install after a fresh OS install.

Anyways, now I'm going to go back and hide in my KDE cave, try to wash the GNOME from my body, and focus on squashing bugs:
*)reconstructor hardy squashfs-lzma nightmare / busybox nightmare
*)why reconstructor usplash support is broken(see it does relate to this in a way)
*)my parallax usplash(It is veeeeery nice, although I can't test it in initramfs without focusing on problem above)
*)...and last but not least, any other low-end non-gui code for the the usplash maker.

Code Update: I do have some basic imagemagick code for creating a preview(static, non-moving) by using the -composite switch. Unless Thee is thinking of an animated type of preview, I was just thinking of a preview button that takes info and makes a preview of it.
Basic work on the script to dynamically build the C file. I'm definitely thinking of adding a config.h with DEFINES such as u-foka did for his kubuntu3d usplash. See http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.ph ... tent=75385 . This will help fix the resolution bug and hopefully cut down on coding because less C code will have to be generated dynamically.

Well, I'm happy to hear that the usefulness of this effort extends into other areas. A preview option would be great!

I still think this new version of TUM should have it's own thread.

What is your suggestion? I could move and create anything you would like (except for rain ;). Where should I split it? I'm thinking that it is prob. in the best spot already, but what would you think?

red-team316's 1.04 version of TUM was first presented in this post. A few posts later, I requested a version without the experimental test. There were also discussions of dependencies etc. that should probably be footnoted into the original presentation. IMO, it would make it easier for first time users if all this info were in a separate thread.

Ah, that works I guess. You had me confused for a moment until I noticed my name in the thread. Renamed the thread so the version number is in it. I suppose this thread can be used for 1.04 discussion, help, bugfixes. It would be really nice to have a 1.03, 1.02, 1.01, etc... thread that way all the other changelogs and code could be preserved. I think that might be kinda hard as it looks like Thee kept the changelog but never kept the old code posted, just the newest version of it. Maybe renaming the older thread to Usplash Maker 1.03 might be good too. Then whenever a new version is released, we can just post a new thread. That way everything will be versioned, since Thee isn't using svn or something similar.

Redhead please, but if those are out of stock, I'll take a brunette :)

EDIT: Cleaned up the other attachments and combined them all into the first post.
The Non-experimental script is now labeled the standard and the script with the test dialog is now named Experimental. Did this as stability is more important than cutting edge. Made sure the files were chmodded before tarring ;)

Nice job red_team ;) I looked around for the redhead and had success...

nice, I like her.

I did finally figure out how to switch to different tty's:
chvt [ttynumber]
http://tldp.org/HOWTO/Keyboard-and-Console-HOWTO-7.html

I.E.
chvt 7
brings you back to your desktop :)

I added this to my usplashmagick-test script and it works great. No more CTRL+ALT+F7ing for me!

This blows my mind... I have not been in programming section better then a month and is my cup of tea ;) I am uploading a gamers edition, admin does not even know it yet ;) Why? I was writing a "Ultimate Edition distro at a glance". which I quit writing when I seen I do not take very good care of the gamers in the nix community - this is about to change. I now have unlimited space as well as bandwidth, so I do not care, i did have to consider that in the past 12 TB in a month off one server and a $9000+ bill.

Anyways, should it not now be called TRUM, I have already written a frontend for it in python? I have not implemented adjustment of the progress bar, just standard actions as would be done with our script?

What is your thoughts on this, I could also host it though our repo as well as inject it in Ultimate Edition 2.0... I already host custom packages not found elsewhere, some I wrote, some I just built for the programmer. I have promoted you to admin (you can now view the admin section of the board)... If the other admin / mods have a problem with you taking a load off me, I will address the issue. I will post it in "our chat room", so they know you are coming.

Please advise,

TheeMahn
