Hey Jeff - It looks like you have been flamboozled by the upgrade script on the desktop. I had this happen to me also. Not a big deal. I've posted about this here: viewtopic.php?f=42&t=1402
That will get you straigtend up, I did notice by the output of the terminal (what you've pasted that it looks like you might have had another issue with it as well (the package not wget'ing' the replacement script for you). I wouldn't worry about it. I just recommend you adding the repo address back to your sources.list and going about your business. I see no point in stressing over the upgrade script on the desktop right now. TheeMahn is putting all his time into the new 'Ultamatix" GUI for downloading new programs (IMHO ... The Bomb!!!)
Hope that helps - and sorry for not answering you sooner.

is this script already installing what is already in 1.8? or is it for those that are installing a plain 8.04.1?

Hello,
I can't answer all your questions, but I'll get you started. The script that your refering to is "Ultamatix" (the GUI version of the original upgrade script). You can install and use this script for downloading additional software/ games from TheeMahns repository. It can be used with a stock Hardy Heron (Ubuntu 8.04) 32 or 64-bit OR with any version of Ultimate Edition 1.8.

Hello all,
I would like to load some of the programs from the Gamer's Edition of 1.8 64bit, to my current installation of 1.8 64bit Ultimate Edition. I read about the new script "Ultamatix" in the forums, followed the directions found in the post " Ultimate Edition Script (Ultamatix)": 1: sudo apt-get remove --purge ultimate-edition and 2: sudo dpkg -i Ultimatix_1.8.0-1-harty_all.deb . I get the following results:

instead.
mike@mike-desktop-1:~$ sudo dpkg -i Ultimatix_1.8.0-1-harty_all.deb
dpkg: error processing Ultimatix_1.8.0-1-harty_all.deb (--install):
cannot access archive: No such file or directory
Errors were encountered while processing:
Ultimatix_1.8.0-1-harty_all.deb

Can someone point our what my error is? I even downloaded the file "Ultimatix_1.8.0-1-harty_all.deb" and tried to run it from my local DL directory, which also failed. Note: the system I am trying to install this new scriot to is the Home system listed in my sig below...

Any pointers would be most appreciated...

The now called "Ultamatix" script I am writing will help all users be it Ultimate Edition, Hardy or debian (untested but does indeed verify the distro in question). I have purchased a website just for it. There were tons of bugs / problems with automatix I have been cleaning up, The Ultamatix I have installed (much more advanced then what is on the forum) works flawlessly in both 64 & 32bit Ultimate Edition, but is not ready for release, when it goes official it will be available for download here.

As of lately all I have been doing, but adding new features. I have fixed better then 80% of the problems they had. It was with good reason Canonical called it a crap, I have been addressing each and every issue labeled. The creator of the "automatix" portion of the script did many things that are considered dangerous, I have addressed all of those issues. the creator of "resin" portion of the software, did not understand *nix file structure or debian based packaging system. About 80% I have fixed, all will be addressed before you can "officially" download it.

I am currently downloading a daily build of hardy to begin construction of Ultimate Edition 1.9 (KDE / Gnome / XFCE based), most likely it will include Ultamatix.

Frostwire will not run with compiz running period, I am fairly certain where the problem resides, multiple bug reports have been filed.

Allow me to correct myself another bug filed...
Code: Select all
cd /usr/lib/frostwire
java -jar FrostWire.jar

Let me know if that does not fix it for you. If it is the second that fixes it for you, I will re-write that section and make it work, is it my job to fix their software? I provide an example:

Howdy Tex! Check your repos (System/Admin/Software Sources - Tab "Third Party Software") & make sure you have the Ultimate Repo listed...if not then open Terminal, sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list .. at bottom of list add deb http://repoubuntusoftware.info/ harty all #Ultimate Repo ... If all this is good...then make sure you're in the directory the DL is in before you run dpkg...
or...
go back to page 1 of this forum, download Ultimatix_1.8.0-1-harty_all.deb (shown under the pic) to your desktop, then double-click on it ;)
