I think that the latest version is 1.8.05, but - is it now a finished project?.

I do not wanting you fellas thinking I forgot about Ultamatix...

-05 well not quite, newest you can download from the web is -04, -05 is built into Ultimate Edition 2.0+, I have -6 release I am working on as I type:

Changelog (subject to further changes):
1.8.0-5

[*] PPA repo driven compiz fusion (lastest and greatest)
[*] Moaning Goat Meter (MGM)
[*] Termininator (multi-window terminal)
[*] Added "Beta" Category and icon

1.8.0-6

[*] Added distro specic routines, supporting Gutsy, Hardy, Intrepid and Jaunty (beta)
[*] Added Debian support (sid only)
[*] Added Open Office 3
[*] Added Xmas Edition Theme Pack
[*] Added EnvyNG (Envy for Hardy based and below)
[*] Added Java browser plugin support
[*] Code clean up on flash plugin, now x64 support in intrepid
[*] Added XBMC Media Center
[*] Added Terminator to Nautilus scripts

While this may not seem like much rest assured a ton of work on my end. Been at it since probably 2 this morning. Just splitting the structures as per each distro was no easy task. I am also hoping to have full repo management built into -06 (another large chore).

The entire structure has changed:

no more mixed repos, it version checks and sets up accordingly, try and keep this under the wraps. Once I get -6 under control -7 is going to be off the proverbial hook and will use "Synaptic" as a backend, same as update manager does, puts an end to all the haters ;)

Version / Distro check function:
Code: Select all
def getDistName():
   #find the version of ubuntu the user is running...
   versions = (('Ubuntu','Ubuntu'),('Mepis','Mepis'),('Debian','Debian'))
   for v in versions:
      if testOutput('lsb_release -i | grep "%s"'%v[0]):
         return v[1]
   return None
def getDistVersion():
   #find the version of ubuntu the user is running...
   versions = (('8.04','hardy'),('7.10','gutsy'),('8.10','intrepid'),('9.04','jaunty'),('4.0r0','4.0r0'))
   for v in versions:
      if testOutput('lsb_release -r | grep "%s"'%v[0]):
         return v[1]
   return None

the executes code based on "release name":
Code: Select all
def __init__(self):
      import xml_functions as resin
      dist = (os.popen('lsb_release -c | cut -f 2').read())
      print "Distro detected: "+dist
      dom = resin.DOMX()
      dom.load(conf.config_path)
      self.locations = dom.return_dict_with_xpath('/*/locations/*')
      self.images = dom.return_dict_with_xpath('/*/images/*')
      for key in self.images.keys():
         self.images[key] = self.locations['image']+"/"+self.images[key]
      dom = resin.DOMX()
      dom.load(self.locations['clientData']+"/version.xml")
      self.distro = dom.return_dict_with_xpath('/*/distro/*')
      self.version = dom.return_dict_with_xpath('/*/version/*')
      key_dom = resin.DOMX()
      key_dom.load(self.locations['clientData']+"/key_data.xml")
      self.keys = key_dom.xBuild()
      self.apt_sources = self.locations['sources']+"/sources.list"
      catagorys = resin.DOMX()
      catagorys.load(self.locations['clientData']+"/category_data.xml")
      self.catagory = catagorys.xBuild()
      master = open(self.locations["clientData"]+"/init_master").read()+"\n"
      client = ""
      file_li = os.popen("find %s"%self.locations['clientData']+'scripts/'+dist,"r").readlines()
      print "Scripting location:"+self.locations['clientData']+'scripts/'+dist
      for f in file_li:
         f = f.strip()
         print "File: "+f
         check = f[f.rfind(".")+1:len(f)]
         if  check == 'autoscript':
            con = open(f,"r").read()
            client += con+"\n"

note variable dist, for example you can open a terminal and type:
Code: Select all
lsb_release -c | cut -f 2

This should return you release name, in my current case intrepid. I will come back and drop screenshots of me starting with vanilla intrepid & installing everything (currently 125 apps / games).

Sit tight,

06 - release on vanila intrepid, I installed intrepid x86 (203 upgrades & installed Ultamatix, let the fun begin). This also shows errors, I may not witness using Ultimate Edition 2.0 for instance & allows me to fix them.

2ndquestion.png
2nd question asked. (codecs you should know better) I may make it so once you accept not to be bugged again.

firedup.png
first time fired up about dialog shows (I am not getting rid of the buzzsaw sound)

tunesfirst.png
I got to have my tunes, while I am waiting for software to flow in.

On with it, already:
goodies.png
Lets not forget the goodies that allows the tunes to play.

error.png
error found, error fixed...

eyecandy.png
Got to have the eyecandy, I am now jamming ;) What more could one ask for? Things are about to look much different.

How about a before & after?
before.png
before ultamatix, eyecandy dept.

before I do so, how about some honesty, no light download in this dept. I think I will do games last ;)
honesty.png
huge.

I guess it is good when I go through the pain of testing everything:
new build of the "huge theme pack is comming as well.png
hammer, rebuild and upload 1/2 a gb.

I suppose an explanation is in order, when I made the deb for Ultimate Edition theme pack, my first btw does not use:
Code: Select all
Replaces: ultimate-edition-themes, ultimate-edition-theme-pack-2, ultimate-edition-xmas-theme

in the control file a small insignificant problem, but heavy enough that it breaks, now that I write many, a whole new ballgame, consider it fixed, will upload it at my convenience. If I would have installed 0.0.5 theme pack first I would never had seen it & worked, both of the others will "replace" it, I am glad to find it so others do not suffer. I am not perfect, nor do I know it all. I like to think I do now, but far from reality.

I have no problem admitting when I have made a mistake, see it firsthand. I wish I knew then what I know now.

Everything I have written -06 has worked flawless thus far. I will be doing more fixing then progressing is what I currently see. It was totally hosed when I picked it up, I feel it now. I now wish that I had written it from scratch.

I did say games right?
games.png
probably 10 GB or better of downloads coming in, I will parse the logs looking for any error.

I wonder who eats the bandwidth? Or is it free? I hate to say this, once I have fixed "all errors" I will fresh install intrepid & do it again, until I see 0 errors from the rip. Then comes x64 of the same, the hardy & x64 the same, gutsy, debian. Please understand why I will soon be incoherent to even admin.

It is no wonder I get mad at times, meticulous intervention, does have it's tolls.

I am going to say this openly & I am fully aware this thread has been viewed ~40,000 times (at time of post) & is my lowest traffic site. I have let things slide when releasing a distro, 99% of the time not my fault. I am big enough, not to say who was at fault. Other then this "Not my admin", you can sleep tight on that one. I "try" not to point fingers. We are a community, this is where I learned nix is the bomb. Do you see Bill helping others? I wonder the sleep I have lost, I have divine purpose. I am sure he would do the same right? Deny $? Not in his Itinerary. Certainly in mine.

Let me tell all, sure the admin know. My girlfriend Karen as a Xmas present to me paid for all hosting fees for the month (all sites), personally I think a great gesture, is it my xmas present or yours, the end user?

Tomorrow, I return the favor X 10. She really knows how to hit a fella, however what comes around goes around. She did well, do I know her? I will shut up now Merry Xmas.

Best regards,

TheeMahn

Somebody's going to be busy for a while!

So busy that I feel guilty for even asking this, Does Ultamatix have the ability to install and set up the dependencies for a 32bit package on a x64 OS, when a 64bit package isn't available?

Just wondering if you had a section where getlibs would do this, either automatically or with a user prompt.
1st Box: Ultimate Edition 2.0 x64/ 1.8 x64
2nd Box: XP (dusty)
3rd Box: Stable Media box Ultimate Edition 1.8 x64 with XBMC

I have thought of doing this for the games that are 32 bit in a 64 bit environment, I suppose I could do so across the board, you are in luck I still am not finished with x86, will take on that bear once I start work on x64. I only have 2 programs to fix DVDStyler & Amobax <<- I am thinking of ripping out Amobax it sucks anyways ;) I have installed 123 of the 125 available. Dvdstyler is worth working on.

TheMann, What can I say...this script is great...

But I have a problem. I used Ultamatix to install swiftweasal on my system. As soon as I installed it, Firefox started acting weird. I started using swiftweasal, but none of the extentions I use on a daily bases worked with swiftweasal (firegesture, Customizegoogle, ect), so I went to uninstall it via ultimatix. Ultimatix stated that swiftweasal was removed, but the program is still on my system, and now firefox will not start up because the system says that there is already a instance of firefox running. Any ideas what I can do?

What CPU do you use (swiftweasel is CPU specific), I will see what I can do for you to reverse what it has done. Please do not be mad at me I took over some pretty shoddy work, I am far from done fixing problems. I am hoping to change -7 to stable a total re-write on my end. I just hated the thought of them selling out on you. Automatix is what brought me to the linux world to begin with, it did fix alot of the hassles a new user has to begin with. I will not accept there is no need for it. Install java support in a AMD64 platform that will play pogo or allow you to do your online banking for instance.

They will flock here, even if to use that 1 part of the 135 applications / games I will currently provide. I am trying to be a problem solver even a newbie can do, not a problem maker ;) Many would like to think big deal java in x64. Well do a search for a sun-java plugin intrepid for your web browser, does not exist, well minus here.

I would build a deb if I knew I would not be sued. I have no choice, but to squash bugs one way or the other. That is the #1 reason not to use AMD64 version of Ubuntu currently. I will take care of it. Use Ubuntu or otherwise I will make it go away.

TheMann,
Trust me, I am not mad at all....hell...I feel that if my system is not down and I am not working on it...I am not learning....simple as that. So, swiftweasal is not good...not a problem...I used the AMD settings (that's what I have in my system). I can use Opera....the only big thing that I use firefox for is SABnzbd and the interface I have with that and newzbin....but there is always hellanzb :)

Normally I would ask what version of Ubuntu / Ultimate Edition you are using, but does not matter at least until ultamatix -6 is dropped. -6 will be a huge adjustment and a ton of work on my end, but will not hold a candle to -7.

Ok I am going to obtain all information I need in terminal:
Code: Select all
cat /opt/automatix/swiftweasel/swiftweaselversion >~/Desktop/TheeMahn.txt
uname -m>>~/Desktop/TheeMahn.txt
dmesg>>~/Desktop/TheeMahn.txt

Sorry to ask you to so again, but this will create a file on your desktop called TheeMahn.txt. Please attach it to this post. I guess that should say it all /opt/automatix. Proof I did not write it ;)
