Ultimate Edition Script (Ultamatix)

Source code I have written openly published for your viewing pleasure.

Sorry Ladies & Gentlemen,

I am currently catching up, eventually I will re-touch Ultamatix. Time is currently not on my side. I have been reviewed for Ultimate Edition 2.2 and they brought up that Ultamatix did not work on their test system. I know why and could fix it in minutes. I just hate starting it until I have time to solve "real problems". If you don't want the whole review hit ctrl+f and type ultamatix.

Please be patient with me.

I dropped a copy of V1.8.04 onto Mint6 & it worked quite well, however V1.8.06 did not work, so good ..
Soo, I'd be curious to see how well it would work on a native Debian O/S. 8-)

Ultamatix 1.8.0-7 is coming (yes that started as Jaunty & is the uninstall tab I show you), I am sorry I have included all versions of Ultamatix in the OS I am well overdue to update the website as well as the version. It is no joke. My admin have tested it and not one error reported. Funny yesterday I was running Jaunty x64, today I am running Jaunty x86 and letting Ultamatix run its path I have caught many an error and am squashing them as they arise ;) 64 bit is flawless to my knowledge.

I do not have time to do so for every O/S & I apologise. Once I am done squashing bugs I will re-install jaunty 32 bit again and make sure I am w/o error. Alot of work has been put in Ultamatix -7 believe that, and I am still not happy with it. I won't be until perfection is met. It will as I have said be a public release.

The changelogs you can read throughout the net do not issue this: 99% of all packages installed are debs & repo driven... package breakage? Not on my watch ;) Granted our soon to be public repo is not general knowledge "yet". Ultamatix will put it to the true test terabytes at a time.

If there is an error, guess who once again gets to fix it. I am human. ;) I bet when I do indeed drop it the site gets knocked offline want to bet? 50,000 ppl (no not hits) in a day is the max I have seen on Ultamatix's site before it dropped. How many were there? -3 release what will happen going from -4 to -7 results? Regardlessly, It will be dropped and do not care if I get dugg. I will at least "try" to ensure you find it here first, on the forum that is. Now glad to be a member?

WOW, I would love to be an admin here, I could have tested it, oh yeah I am an admin, programmer & founder ;)

I dropped a copy of V1.8.07 onto Mint7 , however V1.8.07 did not work.
- did the same with Debian 5.0 & got a different result. !.

On mint7, it checked the environment, repo, script - gave the 'nag" screen & then then bombed out...
this is the same as V 1.8.06, whereas V1.8.04 worked on Mint6 okay.

On Debian, it would only run under root.
- it checked the environment, repo, script - & didn't get to the 'nag" screen...

== which brings up a Question of whether it will run under Ubuntu, or not?. :?
if so, ( since I can't test this @ the moment) - can it be used to "upgrade" Ubuntu into Ultimate.

open a terminal and type ultamatix --debug and please post the results. The screencast I droped of Ultamatix started as a fresh install of Ubuntu Jaunty Jackalope I installed ultamatix and you can see the end results that is the un-install tab I show.

I almost know what the issue is do a lsb_release -a

Ultamatix as the webpage says supports the following O/S's: Gutsy, Hardy, Intrepid, Jaunty, Karmic & debian sid

Debian 5.0 = Lenny not sid

Linux mint is not currently supported. I could tell you exactly how to make it work if you know your way around bash if you would like to test it in mint, and report results.

Let me expain the way ultamatix now works it makes a call to lsb_release -a detects the os running and executes appropriate scripts as per each distro example my output:
Code: Select all
theemahn@SledgeHammer:/media/NewDrive/Custom Debs$ ultamatix --debug
Welcome to Ultamatix
====================
http://ultamatix.com/
Distro detected: jaunty

Scripting location:/usr/share/ultamatix/scripts/jaunty

File: /usr/share/ultamatix/scripts/jaunty
File: /usr/share/ultamatix/scripts/jaunty/jaunty.autoscript
Ultamatix is running in debug mode all errors no matter how small will be displayed.
Ultamatix: 1.8.0-7
Resin version: 3.2.4
Starting

I bet when it starts up and says detecting O/S... O/S detected: None, where it gets it list of software availability is similar /usr/share/ultamatix/script_data/$DISTRO DETECTED/$Distoname.xml

Tell you what drop the output of those 2 commands & I will build you one just for mint and lenny... I will not release it to the public, I want you to fully test it & report perhaps we can have a -8 release with support for lenny & mint, however you will enjoy it ahead of that ;)

If you do well with this, I will upgrade you to mod status. This means install all applications / games from a fresh install of mint, not just the ones that you want, both x86 & x64 (if you have a 64 bit cpu). Same with Lenny. What benefit is it to be a mod around here?

Private acct on a server cutting edge beta software & sometimes alpha, let me drop you an example:
2.4.png
Hot off the press, damn Ultimate Edition 2.3 has not been released yet ;)

That is based on Karmic, you will also gain access to admin / mod section of this board, Ultamatix as it is being made. Your name will also be added to the credits list in Ultamatix About page. I honestly do not have the time to fully test every debian based distro out there.

This was off my test box - running Debian 5.0

EDIT : I can't run it as "user" - the O/S asks for the root pwd & then it bombs out.
so, I am running it under "root" - it's a test box - so who cares if the O/S is vulnerable.
'it' being Ultamatix.

EDIT2 :This has not been so easy to do either - see my post in "newbies" on posting ;)

Here we go, so I cheated a little bit:
deb.png
changed lsb-release to what you supplied copied a script to appropriate dir change distro helpers.py to detect lenny

lenny.png
Built it and installed it.

progress.png
It will have to be tested and Ultimate Edition 2.3 isn't the place to do it

When you supply me info for mint will do the same & send it your way.
