Stormin Samsung SSD

Postby dougal » Mon Feb 06, 2012 5:18 pm

I didn't believe how fast an SSD could be till I installed one tonight to replace my 320Gb Seagate SATA in my Dell Studio 1537 laptop.
Now my Dell is getting on a bit as others have pointed out but, at the time, three years ago now, I chose the top processor along with the highest resolution screen and 4Gb RAM for my photo work along with a 256Mb ATI card.
It is still no slouch when it comes to processing big images and RAW formats too.

Now the system on the Seagate 320 used to take around 45 to 50 seconds to boot.
Now using the Samsung 830 series 64Gb SSD it takes no more than 16 seconds and that's including waiting a few seconds for the WiFi to connect - Stromin...
I know Thee has it down to 7.9 seconds but, he has faster kit to start with ;)

It would normally take me 17 minutes to install Ultimate Edition 2.6.3.
Tonight it took 6, yes 6 minutes. Breathtaking - for an ageing laptop.
Wow, I wonder what a new machine with i5 processor would do, ooohh, I'm droolin at the thought.
Oh and shutdown is down from 5 seconds to 3 too <BREW>
